In travel gear for travelling cranes and trolleys having track-wheel girders of box-type construction, the driving torque is transmitted to the track-wheel 1 by a track-wheel shaft 2 mounted in roller bearings 5, all the gear-wheels of the drive gearing are enclosed in a gear-box 16 flanged to one side-wall 12 of the girder 11, and the torque-transmitting connection between the output from the gearing and the shaft 2 is disposed internally of the shaft 2 or internally of the gear-box 16. As shown, the gear-box 16 forms part of a geared motor, and an output shaft 15 carrying the final gear-wheel of the drive gearing extends into a bore 14 in the shaft 2 and is coupled to the shaft 2 by a key 17. In Figs. 2, 3 (not shown), the final gear-wheel is keyed to the shaft 2 within the gear-box. The gear-box flange is bolted to the side-wall 12 or to a ring 18 welded thereon. The roller bearings 5 are mounted in bushes 9, 10 welded into the side-walls and/or into web plates 13 extending parallel thereto. The track-wheel 1 is adjustably secured on the shaft 2 by compressed spring washers 3, or in Fig. 2 (not shown), the trackwheel 1 is slidably keyed to the shaft 2 and adjustably positioned between collars on the shaft by removable C-shaped spacers slipped on to the shaft and each prevented from rotating by a pin (Fig. 4, not shown) engaging one of several recesses in the adjacent spacer. In Fig. 3 (not shown), the track-wheel 1 is mounted on the shaft 2 in an overhung position externally of the bearings 5.
