    • A pipe flaring device has a rotatable eccentric cone (47), an apex of which defines a fixed centre of rotation, is pressed, while rotating, against an end of a pipe P to be flared. The device has a body (11) having a motor M therein, a drive shaft (27) drivable by the motor through reduction gearing (23) and relatively movable in the axial direction thereof, a feed screw shaft member (49) connected to the drive shaft (27) and screw-engaged by the body so as to rotate and move in the axial direction thereof, and a one-direction rotation transmission mechanism (39,43) between the drive shaft (27) and feed screw shaft member (49) for transmitting rotation of the drive shaft to the feed screw shaft member only in one direction.

    • A mechanical seal arrangement 20 for use in association with a pump casing structure 20.1 and a drive shaft 22 for driving a pump impeller 23 which is housed in the pump casing structure, is disclosed, the seal arrangement comprising:
      a rotatable seal ring 24 having a seal face 25 mountable concentrically on the drive shaft 22 for rotation with the drive shaft 22;
      a non-rotatable seal ring 26 having a seal face 27 mountable in axial alignment with the rotatable seal ring assembly; and
      biassing means 38 for urging the rotatable and non-rotatable seal rings 24 and 26 axially towards each other for effecting sealing engagement of the seal faces of the respective seal rings. The biassing means 38 comprises at least two disk spring elements (29.1,34.1) spaced apart and encapsulated in an elastomeric body. The biassing means is in use in a tensioned state between either one of the seal rings and the pump casing structure.

    • A manhandleable ventilating fan assembly (10) has a set of fan blades (36) carried by a fan hub (34) secured to the front end of a shaft (16) rotatably mounted in a housing (22) for a water-driven turbine runner (20) having radial-flow turbine vanes (20′) on its rear face. The turbine housing has rearwardly-facing inlet and outlet connections (24 and 26) for fire hoses, the inlet leading into an inlet chamber having a control valve (60) through which water passes to a volute (46) supplying the turbine vanes (20′) and having a diameter no greater than that of the fan hub (34). Water mist can be added from nozzles (70) to air driven by the fan. The assembly is tiltably mounted on a frame (93) supportable on wheels (100). A by-pass circuit may bleed off and replace some of the water circuitry through the turbine, and a driving pump on a fire truck, to avoid over-heating.
