    • An imaging tomography apparatus has electronic components provided to operate the tomography apparatus, with at least one of the electronic components exhibiting a power consumption in high power operation that is significantly increased relative to power consumption in normal operation. The imaging tomography apparatus has an energy storage that, in high power operation, supplies the at least one electronic component with additional electrical energy to cover an energy demand due to the difference in power consumption between normal operation and high power operation. The provision of the additional electrical power in high power operation by means of the energy storage allows the modules that participate in the power supply of the at least one electronic component to be realized with lower cost. Such participating modules can be, for example: the mains connection, junction boxes with power switches (safeguards); a transformer, a rectifier, cables, slip ring brushes, slip ring tracks, etc.

    • An X-ray apparatus for a computed tomography scanner comprises a capacitor device formed of a plurality of capacitors which have the same capacitance and are successively connected to a first changeover switch between the filament and anode of an X-ray tube. There are connected in series between the anode of the X-ray tube and the first changeover switch a high voltage switch for intermittently applying a high voltage across the anode and filament of the X-ray tube and a wave tail cut circuit whose contact is opened when a drop takes place in the voltage of the capacitor connected to the first changeover switch. The capacitor device is connected to the secondary winding of a high voltage transformer through a second changeover switch and a diode connected to the plural capacitor in turn. Between the second changeover switch and the secondary winding of the high voltage transformer are connected a rectifier and the contact of a charge-interrupting circuit which is opened when a rise occurs in the voltage of the capacitor connected to the second changeover switch. The plural capacitors of the capacitor device are successively charged with high voltage of a prescribed level. The high voltage of the prescribed level with which the plural capacitors of the capacitor device are charged is successively applied at a short interval across the filament and anode of the X-ray tube, which emits the prescribed amount of X-radiation succession of short burst.

    • Computed tomography apparatus having a continuously rotating X-ray projection and detection unit and circuits for controlling the X-ray tube to produce a radiation pulse of predetermined amplitude and duration for each increment of angular motion of the rotating unit. The X-ray tube is controlled by high-voltage switching elements which apply a voltage pulse of precisely measured duration from a charging circuit which supplies a controlled level DC voltage for driving the X-ray tube. A main control circuit responds to position indicating signals from the rotating unit to repetitively operate the charging circuit and the switching elements whereby highly reproducible X-ray pulses irradiate a subject under examination to enable generation of high quality sectional images, i.e., tomograms.

    • A high voltage pulse generator of the Marx surge type is described in which the stray shunt capacitance to ground associated with the first several spark gaps of the input stages is of a higher value than the stray capacitance associated with the spark gaps of the output stages. The high stray capacitance of the input stages increases the amount of over-voltage transmitted to succeeding gaps when earlier gaps break down which enables a wider pressure range between the self fire and no fire pressures of the gas in the spark gaps. However, by providing a low stray capacitance for the output stages the pulser is still capable of producing high voltage output pulses of a narrow width and fast rise time. These different stray capacitances are provided by placing a grounded metal sleeve of smaller diameter than the pulser housing around the first few storage modules forming the input stages of the pulser, while leaving the last few storage modules forming its output stages free of any such sleeve. As a result, the storage modules of such output stages are spaced from the grounded metal housing by a greater distance than the spacing between the input modules and such sleeve to provide a lower stray capacitance for the output modules than for the input modules.
