    • The present invention permits quality-of-service routing without using any flow pinning or per-flow state mechanisms. In accordance with the present invention, load insensitive routing techniques are utilized for QoS traffic while load sensitive routing techniques are utilized for best effort traffic. In accordance with a preferred embodiment of the present invention, conventional static shortest path routing is utilized for flows that require QoS guarantees while known QoS routing techniques are utilized for best effort flows. Unlike the prior art, a single queue per class per link can be utilized at a network node. The present invention has numerous advantages over the prior art including reduced protocol overhead, lower cost, and reduced route instability.

    • A method and system for providing configurable data services for mobile stations allows mobile stations to select the type and content of data messages addressed to a mobile station. The method includes establishing an active profile associated with a corresponding mobile station. A wireless data server receives a data message addressed to the mobile station. The active profile for the mobile station is accessed to determine applicable stored profile attributes for the mobile station to which the received data message is addressed. The wireless data server detects received profile attributes associated with the received data message. Filtering is applied to the received data message in real-time based on a comparison between the detected profile attributes and the stored profile attributes. The detected profile attributes are readily standardized in accordance with standards followed by the content service provider in order to gain access to the mobile service subscribers.

    • A method for routing electronic messages for communications between computer systems may include the steps of examining a plurality of interest data sets, each having a interest value that indicates specific data that is of interest, creating a filter tree from the plurality of interest data sets where each filter of the filter tree accurately describes child filters in such a way that messages may be properly passed to any terminal filters of the tree which have an interest value that describes the messages, examining the messages, comparing the messages to the root filter of the filter tree to determine if the messages should pass the root filter, and, as long as the messages passes a current filter, comparing the messages with the child filters of the current filter in order to effectively pass the messages to any terminal filters of the tree having an interest value that describes the messages.

    • Load balancing among fast reroute backup tunnels in a label switched network is achieved. M backup tunnels may be used to protect N parallel paths. A single backup tunnel may protect multiple parallel paths, saving on utilization of network resources such as router state and signaling information. A single path may be protected by multiple backup tunnels, assuring that bandwidth guarantees are met under failure conditions even when no one backup tunnel with sufficient bandwidth may be found. A packing algorithm is used to associate individual label switched paths (LSPs) with individual backup tunnels. If an LSP cannot be assigned to a backup tunnel, it may be either rejected, or additional bandwidth is allocated to existing backup tunnels, or a new backup tunnel is established.

    • The objective is to provide a data transfer control device and electronic equipment that are capable of reducing processing overheads, thus enabling high-speed data transfer within a compact hardware configuration. In addition to a FIFO, an internal RAM capable of storing packets in a randomly accessible manner is provided between a link core and a CPU in a data transfer control device conforming to the IEEE 1394 standard. The RAM storage area is divided into a header area, a data area, and a CPU work area, and the header and data areas are divided into areas for reception and transmission. Tags are used to write the header of a receive packet to the header area and the data thereof to the data area. The data area is divided into areas for isochronous transfer and asynchronous transfer. Pointers are provided for controlling the size of each area in RAM variably, and the size of each area can be varied dynamically after power is switched on. Each area has a ring buffer structure. The size of area storing the header or data of one packet is fixed.
