    • PURPOSE:To favorably transmit heat to smooth the distribution of burnup by vibration-packing nuclear fuel rods to be assembled to a fuel assembly and to be arranged in a reactor core by means of pellets of high density and large grain diameter in the center part of the cove. CONSTITUTION:Nuclear fuel pellets 2 are loaded along center positioning rods 8 inserted inside a fuel clad tube 3 on a vibration-packing device 10, and after spherical fuel elements 6 are packed in a circular cavity in the tube, a coil spring 11 is arranged on the top of end pellet 2, and the top is sealed by welding an end plug 5. Pellets of high density and large grain diameter are used for the nuclear fuel pellets 2, the spherical fuel elements 6 of three types of diameter 1mm, 0.2mm, 4 microns or less are vibration-packed to draw out the center positioning rods 8 slowly, and thus the spherical fuel elements are packed around the outer periphery of the nuclear fuel pellets to give fluid plasticity to the outer peripheral part. Thus, the temperature of the whole fuel rod can be reduced to smooth the distribution of burnup.

    • PURPOSE:To avoid directly touching fissionable gas on the outer walls of a coating pipe by filling the inner cylinder of a cylindrical vessel with nuclear fuel powder composed of inner and outer double walls while filling the circular gap between both inner and outer cylinders with helium gas. CONSTITUTION:The inner cylinder 11a of a cylindrical vessel 11 composed of inner and outer double walls is filled with nuclear fuel powder 12, and a gap of 0.2mm is formed between the inner cylinder 11a and the outer cylinder 11b. Further, when the powder 12 is supplied in the inner cylinder 11a, a cover 11c is fused therewith in helium gas while the circular gap between the inner and the outer cylinders is filled with helium gas. At the time of nuclear fission of BWR fuel, fissionable gas is held so as not to increase inner pressure while heat is taken out by helium gas from the circular space and the powder 12. Therefore, the action for the outer cylinder 11b caused by the fissionable gas can be avoided.
