    • A method and apparatus for supporting shared microcode in a multi-thread computation engine is presented. Each of a plurality of thread controllers controls a thread of a plurality of threads that are included in the system. Rather than storing the operation codes associated with their respective threads and providing those operation codes to an arbitration module for execution, each of the thread controller stores operation code identifiers that are submitted to the arbitration module. Once the arbitration module has determine which operation code should be executed, it passes the operation code identifiers corresponding to that operation code to a microcode generation block. The microcode generation block uses the operation code identifiers to generate a set of input parameters that are provided to a computation engine for execution, where the input parameters correspond to those for the operation code encoded by the operation code identifiers received by the microcode generation block.

    • A method and system for description of synthetic audiovisual content makes it easier for humans, software components or devices to identify, manage, categorize, search, browse and retrieve such content. For instance, a user may wish to search for specific synthetic audiovisual objects in digital libraries, Internet web sites or broadcast media; such a search is enabled by the invention. Key characteristics of synthetic audiovisual content itself such as the underlying 2d or 3d models and parameters for animation of these models are used to describe it. More precisely, to represent features of synthetic audiovisual content, depending on the description scheme to be used, a number of descriptors are selected and assigned values. The description scheme instantiated with descriptor values is used to generate the description, which is then stored for actual use during query/search. Typically, a user, to search for a needed synthetic audiovisual content initiates a query that is passed on to a search engine that then retrieves the candidate content from one or more databases whose description closely matches the query criteria specified by the user.

    • A method of enhancing the appearance of predetermined objects in a graphic display, rendered by a computing engine, includes a step of determining the system limitations of the computing engine for displaying an object in the form of a group of pixels, wherein the group of pixels distorts representation of the object at a distant range within the graphic display. The method also includes the steps of constructing a base model of the object viewable at a normal range within the graphic display, constructing at least one enhanced model of the object to provide a first set of attributes to the group of pixels to compensate for the distortions of the object at the distant range within the graphic display, and storing the base model and at least one enhanced model in an image database. These “intelligent models” are then used in a simulation program.

    • The present invention is to provide a method for moving grouped characters whose interaction can be expressed realistically. When an acceleration for moving a character away from anther character when the another character exists within a short distance region of the character, an acceleration for matching the character with speed and direction of another character moving as so to follow a leader when the another character exists within a middle distance region, and an acceleration for moving the character away from another character when the another character exists within a long distance region are calculated (steps 308 to 312), and a position of the character on a three-dimensional virtual space is calculated on the basis of summed acceleration obtained by sing the calculated accelerations for each of components x, y, z on the three-dimensional virtual (steps 314, 316). Since each character can move while changing its speed and direction according to motion of other characters, motion of each character can be expressed realistically.
