A resource exchange subsystem(100) connects an IP system to a common line signal network, performs a protocol matching function with a service switching point(SSP) and a service control point(SCP), sets a bearer channel with the service switching point(SSP) and sets a special resource channel with the resource subsystem, and controls plural resource subsystem. 摘要： PURPOSE: An intelligent-networked system with service for notifying and hearing selected e-mails via a public switched telephone network is provided to convert an electronic text message to an audio message. CONSTITUTION: An intelligent-networked telecommunication system for audio playing of Electronic Mail ( E-Mail ) messages uses the Service Control Point (SCP) of the Intelligent Network (IN) to route e-mail messages directed to subscribing customers to the customer's telephone number when the e-mail header matches the limitations stored in the subscribing customer's profile. The text of the e-mail message is converted to an audio message which can either be heard by the customer when a call is answered, or stored on an answering machine or in a voice mailbox. The present-inventive Notifying and Hearing Selective E-Mails (NHSE) system and method also includes features such as the subscribing customer being able to specify that audio e-mail messages will be truncated to a specified length, sending a special Caller ID message identifying the e-mail sender and subject of the message when the customer also has Caller ID service, and preceding the transmission of the audio e-mail message with a distinctive ringing pattern, to allow a subscribing customer the option of going off-hook to listen to the message, or allow the call to go directly to voice mail or an answering machine.

摘要： A method and apparatus for routing a call from the calling party to a called party includes determining within an SCP whether the calling party is authorized to place calls to the called party as a part of setting up the call. In the described embodiment of the invention, the disclosed method is to be implemented as a subscriber feature. In one embodiment of the invention, the SCP merely examines the calling party number to determine whether it is authorized to make the call. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the calling party number is first mapped to a calling party name and then the calling party name is compared to a list of calling party names that are authorized to make the call. This embodiment is advantageous in that it allows for calling parties to aurally state their name into a telephone so that the SCP, with the help of the IVR, may determine what the calling party name is. This is helpful for those circumstances where an authorized calling party seeks to place a call to the called party from a phone other than his or her own. The invention further includes, in some embodiments, giving the calling party an option to pay a toll to have the call routed for those circumstances in which the calling party is not authorized to place calls to the called party. In one embodiment of the invention, the calling party is asked whether a toll charge can be charged to the calling party. In another embodiment, the calling party is asked to provide an authorization PIN.

摘要： A system and method to provide a busy signal to a communication without a terminating network element providing answer supervision and without the originating caller associated with the communication being charged for the communication. A communication that has been forwarded over an integrated services digital network (ISDN) interface connection from a central office to a terminating network element for further routing of the communication to a terminating unit is accepted at the terminating network element and an ISDN interface connection is made, but answer supervision with respect to the communication is not provided. Upon a determination that the terminating unit to which the communication would otherwise be forwarded is busy, the terminating network element provides an ISDN release complete message with respect to the communication to the central office. The ISDN release complete message instructs the central office to play a busy signal to the communication. The terminating network element also releases the ISDN interface connection to the communication. In response to receipt of the ISDN release complete message from the terminating network element, the central office plays a busy signal to the communication.

Control messages conforming to a standard control protocol, which may be INAP - the Intelligent Network Application Protocol, are passed from the SCP to the IP which then executes a predetermined function. Some of the control messages include a field identifying the messages as relating to an additional function not provided for in the standard protocol. In response to such a message, the IP executes the relevant additional function instead of one of the standard functions.
