    • Described is a plasma switched organic electroluminescent display, which includes an electroluminescent part including a cathode layer, an electroluminescent layer on the cathode layer, and an anode layer on the electroluminescent layer, a first power supply unit connected electrically to the anode layer and disconnected electrically to the cathode layer so as to supply the electroluminescent layer with a first power, a plasma generating part generating a plasma wherein the plasma becomes contacted with the cathode layer, and a second power supply unit generating the plasma by supplying the plasma generating part with a second power, wherein the cathode layer is connected electrically to the first power supply unit through the plasma, thereby enabling to emit light by organic electroluminescent as well as drive the display by a low driving voltage using a plasma discharge as a switch.

    • A channel plate suitable for use in a plasma-addressed electro-optic display device and comprising a substrate having a set of elongate channels formed therein covered by a thin deposited dielectric layer is fabricated by filling the channels with filler material, depositing a layer of porous dielectric material over the substrate, removing the filler material from the channels through the porous layer and thereafter depositing a layer of non-porous dielectric material over the porous layer so as to close the channels. In this way a very thin dielectric layer can reliably be provided which improves operation of the channel plate as an addressing structure, with the channels filled with an ionisable gas, for example in a display device having electro-optic material overlying the dielectric layer.

    • A discharge chamber wherein the allowability for positional displacement of electrodes is increased to facilitate manufacture of the discharge chamber and a method of manufacturing the discharge chamber are disclosed. The discharge chamber has a flat panel structure wherein a first substrate and a second substrate are adhered to each other with a predetermined gap left therebetween. Striped anodes and cathodes are arranged alternately on the first substrate. Barrier ribs are interposed between the two substrates and arranged in a stripe pattern to partition the gap to form discharge channels. The anodes are arranged just below the barrier ribs and have a width dimension smaller than the width dimension of the barrier ribs. Meanwhile, each of the cathodes is arranged intermediately between each adjacent ones of the cathodes. Even if the barrier ribs suffer from relative positional displacement, the exposed surface area of the cathodes by which plasma discharge is dominated is kept fixed.

    • A plasma addressing structure functioning as a display panel (52) includes an ionizable gas captured within a network (110) of intersecting channels formed by multiple spaced-apart islands (60) arranged in substantially parallel rows (62) projecting from the major surface (104) of an underlying substrate (64). The network of channels includes elongated channels (112) that are positioned between adjacent rows of islands, and spur channels (114) that extend between individual islands in each row and couple adjacent elongated channels. The gas in the network of channels is selectively ionized to address display elements (54), which are aligned with the islands positioned along each of the island rows. Each island has a top surface or plateau (128) that is spaced-apart from and substantially parallel to the major surface from which the island projects. The plateaus provide a relatively large surface area for supporting addressing structure components such as a layer (68) of electro-optic material and a layer (96) of dielectric material.
