    • A method of compensating for the errors of a measuring current transformer in consideration of the hysteresis characteristics of a core is disclosed.     • The invention relates to a current transformer for mains alternating current with direct current components, comprising at least one transformer core (4) with a primary winding (2) and at least one secondary winding (3), whereby a load resistor (5) is parallel connected to the secondary winding and closes the secondary current circuit with a low resistance. A semi-conductor component which is opened and closed within each period over a suitable period of time is provided in the secondary current circuit. The secondary current circuit runs idle during this period of time. This reduces the build up of core magnetization produced by the direct current components so that the transformer core (4) cannot be driven to saturation and the transformer cores do not need to be over-dimensioned.
