    • A manually operable setting stem 1 has three stable axial positions defined by a pull out piece 4 cooperating with notches in the head 8a of a spring 8. The illustrated position is a pushed in, neutral position. In an intermediate pulled out position, a return bar 9 moves a sliding pinion 12 into engagement with a gear 17 in mesh with a gear 18 which is in turn in mesh with a gear 19 whose axis can swing about the axis of the gear 18. In the intermediate position, rotation of the stem in one sense adjusts a data ring 14 via a star-wheel 20 on the gear 19; rotation in the other sense adjusts the pre-set alarm time via a gear 21. In the fully pulled out position the return bar slides the pinion 12 further inwardly and with it the gear 17 which meshes with a gear 24 for setting the time indicating mechanism. The stem can be pushed in beyond the stable pushed in position to engage the tip 1a of the stem with an electrical contact. Such operation alternately turns the alarm mechanism on and off.

    • An electro-acoustic device for an alarm watch includes a lever moved by an oscillating electromagnetic field created by an electromagnet to vibrate a moving element or glass of the watch and produce a sound. The glass is elastically mounted on a sealing ring of the watch. The lever is mounted by one end to the watch and includes a tapered part adjacent the one end which is elastically deformable thereat so that a free end of the lever opposite the one end may vibrate and its fundamental frequency in response to the oscillating electromagnetic field. The free end of the lever carries a stem coupling the lever to the glass and transmitting the oscillating motion of the lever to the glass, which vibrates on the elastic ring to produce the sound.

An alarm wrist watch comprises a membrane 17 for generating an audible alarm, a spring blade 18 capable of vibrating at a predetermined natural frequency and positioned to cause the membrane to vibrate, and electrical control means for maintaining the vibration of the spring blade, the electrical control means being actuated by a switch which is operated at a predetermined time by the watch movement. The spring blade 18 is rigidly secured to a post 19 and carries an armature 20 which co-operates with the electrical control means comprising a permanent magnet and coils connected to a conventional battery driven transistorized circuit. An alarm hand is set by rotating a bezel 3 which carries the watch glass 2 and at the pre-set time the alarm sound is transmitted through openings 16 which may be partially or completely closed by a shutter to limit the intensity of the sound. A push button switch is provided in series with the movement actuated switch to enable the alarm to be shut off. The watch case is rectangular but modifications are described for circular watch cases and the alarm sound may be produced by the blade striking a pin attached to the watch glass. In a further modification, the alarm mechanism comprises a timing fork with circular tines, one of which is adapted to strike a bell and a tuning fork with parallel tines may also be used.
