    • An injection molded high temperature plastic intake manifold (30) for an internal combustion engine includes a thin-walled hollow shell (12) to match the interior configuration of a manifold (30), the mandrel (15) being configured to define grip surfaces thereon, the shell (12) being adapted to be filled with water which is frozen to form a core assembly (10) with the mandrel (15) secured by the action of the ice (14) gripping the grip surfaces. The manifold (30) is formed with terminating flanges (25) which define mounting surfaces (29) and the shell (12) having lips (11) that engage and are nested in the flanges (25) in spaced relation to the mounting surfaces (29). Surface protrusions (13) are preferably formed on the outer surface of the shell (12) to help secure the shell (12) to the wall of the molded manifold (30).
