摘要： A height-adjustable work surface assembly includes a base portion and a work portion, and may include a gas spring, an actuation mechanism, a rack, and a pinion. The work portion is supported by the base portion for translation along a first path of motion. The gas spring is actuatable between a locked position and an unlocked position, and is operable to apply a force on the work portion in the unlocked position to urge the work portion along the first path of motion. The actuation mechanism is coupled to the gas spring to move the gas spring from the locked to the unlocked position. The rack is supported by the work portion or the base portion and includes a first plurality of teeth. The pinion is supported by the other of the work portion and the base portion and includes a second plurality of teeth.

摘要： An adjustment mechanism for adjusting the height of a chair seat, table top or other item includes telescoping outer, intermediate and inner tubes. The outer tube is attached to a base. The inner tube is attached to a chair seat or other load. A drive extends the telescoping tubes to adjust the height of the load. In one form, the drive includes a flexible, substantially nonelastic tape having an end fixed to the inner tube and an end fixed to the outer tube. The tape engages or rides over a sheave supported on the intermediate tube. In another form, the drive includes a pair of racks and a pinion. A piston cylinder actuator is disposed within the inner tube. The actuator includes an extensible rod which causes relative movement between the inner and intermediate tubes and extension of the intermediate tube relative to the base through the drive tape or rack and pinion.

The lifts support a table top with a work surface. The frame is in the form of a universal base that accepts a number of different mechanism including, for example, a counterbalance mechanism, a motor drive mechanism, and a manually operable mechanism. These mechanisms can be selected by a user, depending upon the type of table that is to be manufactured. This enables the user to pick and choose a mechanism so that the manufacturer can use the same universal base in the construction of three different table designs. A plurality of panels are provided that cover the frame. These panels can also be selected by an end user to define an ornamental look and/or a selected color pattern.
