    • A linear motion bearing is disclosed which includes a rail having a plurality of load bearing surfaces and a carriage which rolls smoothly along the rail to slidably support any of a plurality of devices such as individual tools, pillow blocks, etc. The bearing carriage includes a plurality of rolling element surfaces which define with the load bearing surfaces of the rail, load bearing raceways for reception of cylindrical rollers. The carriage further defines return raceways which communicate with the loaded bearing raceways for conducting the rollers between the loaded and return raceways. The loaded bearing surfaces have a unique convex shape facing the working surfaces of the rollers and thereby avoid undue stresses otherwise occurring at the roller ends. A plurality of molded plastic roller retainers are provided with integral inner end caps to guide the rollers between loaded and return raceways. Outer end caps are positioned thereover to seal the bearing and facilitate lubrication. All but central roller retainers are preferably provided in two half secions, while the central retainers extend the length of the carriage. In alternate embodiments, the retainers are formed separate from the inner end caps and may be attached by ultrasonic welding or gluing, etc.

    • A linear motion bearing system comprising a rolling element retainer structure having at least a portion of a plurality of open axial rolling element tracks formed therein. The rolling element tracks including an open load-bearing portion, an open return portion and turnarounds interconnecting the load bearing and return portions. A plurality of bearing rolling elements are disposed in the rolling element tracks. A plurality of load bearing outer races are axially positioned adjacent the rolling element retainer structure for receiving load from the rolling elements disposed in the load-bearing portion of the rolling element tracks. An outer housing sleeve is effective to hold the rolling element retainer structure. A rail is effective to mate with the rolling element retainer structure, the rail including at least one recess sized and shaped so as to be mateable with at least one of the bearing rolling elements.

    • A linear motion bearing assembly is provided having a rail assembly comprising a base member and a pair of vertical arms which have flexible characteristics with respect to the base member. A bearing carriage assembly is also included which has a bearing carriage and a pair of legs extending therefrom. The extending legs define a longitudinal channel for accommodating the rail assembly, and are flexible with respect to the bearing carriage. A plurality of load bearing race inserts are positioned on the vertical arms of the rail assembly and the extending legs of the bearing carriage assembly. A load bearing surface of the plurality of load bearing inserts has a predisposed compressive stress. A plurality of rolling elements are disposed in load bearing tracks which are defined by the plurality of load bearing race inserts.

    • A linear motion bearing assembly is provided and includes ball retainer structure, outer housing sleeves, a plurality of load bearing plates and plate retainer structure. The ball retainer structure of the bearing assembly can be either monolithically formed or, alternatively, assembled from multiple elements. At least a portion of axial ball tracks are formed in the outer radial faces of the ball retainer structure with each ball track having a load bearing portion providing access to a support shaft or spline. An outer housing including a pair of sleeves are provided to encompass and protect the ball retainer structure and the bearing balls contained therein. These sleeves are preferably formed of an engineering plastic. A plurality of load bearing plates, preferably of the self-aligning type, are positioned within the outer housing and serve to receive and transmit loads from the bearing balls in the load bearing portion of the ball tracks. Separate plate retainer structure is configured and positioned to directly receive and transmit loads from the load bearing plates to a carriage into which the bearing assembly is mounted. This plate retainer structure may be extended longitudinally to substantially enclose the exterior surface of the ball retainer structure. In this configuration, no separate outer housing structure is needed.
