    • A cab-over-engine vehicle is described wherein the cab is supported in a level orientation on the vehicle's chassis. A cab repositioning system raises the cab while maintaining the cab in the level orientation, thus exposing the engine to be worked on. A service step structure that is hidden within the exterior body when the cab is over the engine is deployed when the cab is raised. The service step structure is connected to the underside of the cab such that the service step structure swings down and away from the exterior body to provide access to the raised level cab at the same time allowing access to the engine.

    • A method of modular design suitable for use, for example, in a CAD program is provided. In one aspect, the method is embodied in a CAD program specifically configured to support modular design, or more specifically, concurrent and consistent design of multiple installation assemblies of a product. Each installation assembly consists of a reference assembly and a Bill-of-Material (BOM) assembly. The BOM assembly contains component models that are the modular elements to be designed. The reference assembly contains referenced assemblies that are installed to make up the design environment for the component models in the BOM assembly. The BOM assembly in one installation assembly can be reused as a referenced assembly in the reference assembly of another installation assembly. Any changes made to the BOM assembly are automatically reflected in the reference assembly that contains the same BOM assembly as a referenced assembly.

    • An electronic winch monitoring system for a winch having a fixed-ratio gearbox with input and output shafts, a winch drum connected to the output shaft, and an auxiliary brake connected to the output shaft activated by reducing the pressure in a brake release hydraulic circuit. The system comprises an input shaft speed sensor, an output shaft speed sensor, and an electronic control unit having a monitoring section and a brake control section. The monitoring section receives the speed signals, processes them to produce a calculated ratio of actual input to output shaft speeds, and produces a fault indication signal when the value of the difference between the calculated speed ratio and the fixed ratio exceeds a predetermined value. The brake control section, upon receiving the fault signal, reduces the hydraulic pressure in the brake circuit using a nonlinear pressure-time profile to engage the auxiliary brake and stop the winch drum.

A method for improving ride quality and structural integrity of the modular cab/sleeper structural assembly (31) is also provided.
