    • A small size and low cost optical receiving apparatus, which can stably demodulate the signal, lights in accordance with the differential M-phase shift keying (DMPSK) system. An optical receiving apparatus comprises a light branching unit for branching the differential M-phase shift keying signal beam into four signal light beams, a delay adjusting unit giving a delay time difference of one symbol between a first signal light beam and a second signal light beam and between a third signal light beam and a fourth signal light beam, a demodulating unit for outputting a least two demodulated light signals through respective interferences between the first signal light beam and the second signal light beam, and between the third signal light beam and the fourth signal light beam on one plane which is not parallel to any signal light beam, and at least two optical detectors for converting at least two light signals into electrical signals.

    • An optical cross-connect includes multiple input ports that each receive an optical input signal and multiple output ports that each output an optical output signal. The optical cross-connect also includes a distributing amplifier associated with each input port that generates multiple copies of the input signal received at the associated input port. Furthermore, the optical cross-connect includes multiple filter units that receive a copy of one or more of the input signals from one or more of the distributing amplifiers and forward traffic in selected channels of one or more of the received copies. In addition, the optical cross-connect includes a combining amplifier associated with each output port. Each combining amplifier receives the traffic in one or more of the channels forwarded by one or more of the filter units and combines the received traffic into an output signal to be output from the associated output port. The optical cross-connect further includes one or more regeneration modules that each regenerate the traffic in one or more channels of one or more of the input signals.

    • An optical transmission system, where in an optical transmitter a detection bit having a specific pattern set according to the number of bits to be transmitted within one symbol time, is imparted with respect to a transmission signal in which transmission information has been encoded according to a preset format, and an optical signal generated by modulating light according to the transmission signal is transmitted to a transmission line. In an optical receiver, logic inversion or bit swap of received data is detected and compensated by using the detection bit included in the received signal, a decoding process of the compensated received signal is executed. As a result, when an optical signal capable of transmitting multi-bit information within one symbol time is transferred, it is possible to realize excellent transmission characteristics, by reliably compensating an error in received data caused by the modulation format or the multiplex system of the optical signal.
