摘要： A BD-ROM playback apparatus for selecting and playing back one among text subtitle streams together with a moving picture. PSR 48-61 store Decode Capability flags whose set values indicate, for each language, whether or not a decode capability is present. Procedure executing unit 20 judges whether each text subtitle stream can be displayed, by referring to each set value of flags. Stream selection unit 17 selects a text subtitle stream judged as being able to be decoded. Here, the decode capability for a language being present indicates presence of rendering capability for converting character codes of the language into bitmaps, and support capability for supporting properties of the language. The b16 to b23 in PSR 30 includes a permission flag indicating whether stream selection unit 17 is permitted to select an unsupported language for which rendering capability is present but not support capability.

摘要： Recorded on the recording medium (BD-ROM) is an AV stream that is obtained by multiplexing a video stream and one or more audio streams. MOVIE objects are scenarios showing playback procedures of video data described using playback device-oriented commands. In addition to the MOVIE objects, enhanced-mode scenarios (Java and WebPage objects) are also recorded on the recording medium. These enhanced-mode scenarios, each of which is described in the Java language or a markup language, show control procedures with respect to playback devices. The Java and WebPage objects are capable of taking over register setting values set by MOVIE objects, and extracting parts of video data played by MOVIE objects.

The Interactive Graphics Decoder 13 then executes a command corresponding to one of the plurality of Buttons on the Page, to thereby perform (1) a control of switching the Page to another Page and (2) a control of specifying a Button to be set in a selected state on the other Page. A judgment is made as to whether a button number of the specified Button is invalid. If the button number is invalid, an alternative value is written in a status register.

The data stream includes timing information defining respective times to present the first primary video and the first auxiliary video. The converting section associates second auxiliary video, having the same contents as the first auxiliary video on a picture of the first primary video, with a picture of second primary video, having the same contents as the counterpart of the first primary video, thereby generating synthetic video composed of the second primary video and the second auxiliary video.

In addition, the BD-ROM also has multiple playback paths and dynamic scenarios recorded thereon. The dynamic scenarios instruct a playback device to play a digital stream using the playback paths. The dynamic scenarios include selection procedures (IF-statement blocks) which cause the playback device to compare a constant and a register-stored value indicating a user's age set on the playback device, (PSR(13)), and to select a playback path from among the multiple playback paths according to the result of the comparison.
