There is provided a liquid crystal display device having a liquid crystal interposed between a pair of substrates, in which an electric field parallel to a surface of each of the substrates is applied to the liquid crystal, thereby changing a display state. The liquid crystal display device comprises a retardation film arranged at a side opposite to the liquid crystal of one substrate of the substrates, a first polarizing plate which is arranged at a side opposite to the substrate of the retardation film and which has a transmission axis parallel to an alignment direction of the liquid crystal, and a second polarizing plate which is arranged at a side opposite to the liquid crystal of the other substrate and which has a transmission axis orthogonal to the alignment direction of the liquid crystal.

    • The invention provides a liquid crystal display device having a wide viewing angle for transmissive display and reflective display. The liquid crystal display device according to the invention can include a homeotropic liquid crystal layer interposed between a pair of substrates. The liquid crystal display device has a transmissive display area and a reflective display area in each dot area. A liquid crystal layer thickness-adjustment layer can be interposed between at least the substrate of the pair of substrates and the liquid crystal layer. The liquid crystal layer thickness-adjustment layer reduces the liquid crystal layer thickness of the reflective display area in comparison with the liquid crystal layer thickness of the transmissive display area. On the substrate opposing the substrate with the liquid crystal layer thickness-adjustment layer, protrusions protruding from the inner surface of the substrate to the liquid crystal layer are formed.

    • The invention provides a liquid crystal display device capable of displaying images with a wide angle in both of transmissive display and reflective display. In the liquid crystal display device, a liquid crystal layer can be interposed between a pair of substrates, and a transmissive display region and a reflective display region can be provided in one dot region. The liquid crystal layer is made of liquid crystal whose dielectric anisotropy showing that liquid crystal molecules are vertically aligned at an initial stage is negative. A liquid crystal layer thickness controlling layer for making the thickness of the liquid crystal layer in the reflective display region different from the thickness of the liquid crystal layer in the transmissive display region can be provided between the substrate and the liquid crystal layer. In the transmissive display region and the reflective display region, protrusions that protrude from the internal surface of the substrate to the inside of the liquid crystal layer are further provided. Therefore, the height of the convex portions formed in the transmissive display region is larger than the height of the convex portions formed in the reflective display region.

    • A sheet-affixing device for affixing a pressure sensitive adhesive-sheet onto a wheel is provided. The sheet-affixing device comprises an absorption plate member, an alignment shaft member, and a pressing member. The absorption plate member is formed in a ring-shape. The exterior diameter of the absorption plate member is smaller than the diameter of a rim. On the bottom surface of the absorption plate member there are provided a plurality of suction perforations. The alignment shaft member is fitted into the hub so that the center of the absorption plate member and the center of the wheel are aligned. The pressing member is used for pressing a peripheral part of the pressure sensitive adhesive-sheet against the rim so that the peripheral part is affixed to the rim. Further, the pressing member is movable relative to the absorption plate member along the axial direction of the ring-shaped absorption plate member.

A first spacer member 12 is disposed between the light-guiding member 3 and the liquid crystal structure 6 at the peripheral portions thereof so as to be in close contact with the light-guiding member 3 and the liquid crystal structure 6, and a second spacer member is disposed between the light-guiding member 3 and the cover 23 at the peripheral portions thereof so as to be in close contact with the light-guiding member 3 and the cover 23. The spacer members 12 and 22 prevent the entry of dust between the liquid crystal structure 6 and the light-guiding member 3 and between the light-guiding member 3 and the cover 23, and can be used to eliminate the problem of ununiform close contact between these component parts.
