    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily and surely inspect the unstability of output around a bias point by applying a current to an inductive element without impressing the magnetic field on a magnetic head from the outside and measuring the output characteristic of an MR element after the application of this current is finished. SOLUTION: A sense current is applied to the MR element by aligning the output terminal of the MR element of the magnetic head to be inspected and a 1st probe pin 12a and aligning the input terminal of the inductive element and a 2nd probe pin 12b. Next, after the supply of a rectangular current to the inductive element of the head to be inspected is finished, a voltage from the output terminal of the MR element is detected in the state in which the sense current is applied, and is subjected to A/D conversion to fetch as data. These data are analyzed by a control computer 20 to calculate the standard deviation, the maximum value and the minimum value, etc., of the output voltage, and by these obtained values, the decision of the normal/defective article is made in accordance with the existence of the unstability of the output of this magnetic head.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To correctly and highly accurately measure the pinned direction of a magneto resistive effect element by calculating maximum values of resistances of the element in areas in which polarities of a magnetic field for measurement are positive and negative while impressing the magnetic field for measurement on the element and calculating the relative rotational angle with respect to the magnetic field for measurement at the time the maximum values become roughly equal while relatively rotating the impression direction of the magnetic field untill the maximum values becomes roughly equal each other. SOLUTION: A computer 22 performs positioning between the output terminals of a spin valve stacked matter to be inspected of a sample 26 and a probe pin 27 by moving or rotating X-Y-Z and θ tables 23, 24. Next, the computer 22 calculates maximum values Rmp, Rmn in areas in which polarities of the magnetic field for measurement are positive and negative by a peak detecting method of the like while making sense current to flow through the spin valve stacked matter and by impressing the magnetic field for measurement whose polarities are periodically changed with a Helmholz's coil 20 on the sample 26. Then, it calculates an angle in which the maxumum values Rmp, Rmn become roughly equal by rotating the θ table 24 in a direction in which the difference of the maximum values Rmp, Rmn becomes smaller.
