    • A method of transmitting data by a terminal device operating in a wireless communications system comprising a non-terrestrial network access node and the terminal device, comprises the terminal device receiving an indication of an initial value of a set of one or more communications parameters for transmitting radio signals carrying the data, and modelling a state of a communications channel from the terminal device to a non-terrestrial network access node, in which a link adaptation procedure is used to select a revised value of the set of the one or more communications parameters with respect to the initial value of the set of the one or more communications parameters for the modelled channel state, and the method includes adapting the value of the set of the one or more communications parameters according to the revised value. The method then includes transmitting radio signals representing the data using the set of the one or more communications parameters. The method may also include determining whether the revised communications parameters have changed with respect to the initial parameters, and so only revising the communications parameters if these have changed with respect to the initial value. Accordingly, link adaptation can be performed without a requirement for feedback of a channel state of the communications channel at the receiver, which may the non-terrestrial network access node located on a satellite to which uplink data is transmitted.

    • A method of controlling communications within a wireless communications network is provided. The wireless communications network comprises a plurality of infrastructure equipment each being configured to communicate with one or more others of the infrastructure equipment via a backhaul communications link, one or more of the infrastructure equipment each being configured to communicate with one or more communications devices via an access link. The method comprises transmitting, to a first of the infrastructure equipment acting as a donor node connected to a core network part of the wireless communications network, data by a second of the infrastructure equipment via one or more others of the infrastructure equipment acting as relay nodes, the second infrastructure equipment being a child node and one of the one or more other infrastructure equipment acting as the relay nodes or the donor node being a parent node to which the child node is attached, the parent node being configured to allocate uplink communications resources to the child node, wherein the method comprises, in advance of the transmitting the data by the child node to the donor node, configuring, by one of the donor node and the parent node, a Buffer Status Report, general BSR timer for the child node, the general BSR timer being common and synchronised among at least a subset of the plurality of infrastructure equipment, receiving, at the parent node, subsequent to expiry of the general BSR timer, a signal comprising a BSR from the child node indicating an amount of uplink data that the child node has ready to transmit to the parent node, and scheduling, by the parent node, in accordance with the BSR received from the child node, communications resources of the backhaul communications link to the child node in which the child node is to transmit the uplink data.

    • A method of operating a communications device in a wireless communications network comprises transmitting a random access message on a wireless access interface, the random access message comprising a selected random access preamble. The method further comprises receiving a resource allocation message comprising an indication of downlink communications resources allocated for the transmission of a random access response message combined with a radio network terminal identifier which identifies the communications device which transmitted the random access message, determining that the resource allocation message identifies the communications device, and in response to determining that the resource allocation message identifies the communications device, decoding the signals transmitted using the allocated downlink communications resources. The determining that the resource allocation message identifies the communications device comprises calculating the radio network terminal identifier which is used in the resource allocation message to identify the communications device using an offset, and confirming that the calculated radio network terminal identifier corresponds with the radio network terminal identifier present in the resources allocation message. In some examples the offset is combined with a parameter which is used for calculating the radio network temporary identifier according to a conventional technique, which depends on a time of transmission of the random access message so that the offset can generate a radio network temporary identifier for a communications device performing a two-step random access procedure which is different and distinguished from a radio network temporary identifier directed for another communications device such as one performing a four- step random access procedure.

    • A method of operating an infrastructure equipment forming part of a wireless communications network comprises establishing a radio bearer in accordance with a radio resource connection procedure for transmitting data via a wireless access interface to the wireless communications network, the radio bearer including one or more quality of service flows. Each of the quality of service flows is associated with a communications service provided to the communications device and each of the quality of service flows is defined by parameters for communicating the data for the communications service. The parameters include a relative priority indicator providing an indication of a relative priority level for transmitting from the communications device the data with respect to other quality of service flows. The method includes transmitting the data via the radio bearer for the one or more quality of service flows by prioritising the data for one of the one or more quality of service flows over at least one other of the quality of service flows according to the relative priority indicator for the quality of service flow. The relative priority indicator for each of the quality of service flows includes an indication of a priority level for the data including for example one or more of a type of the communications service being provided to the communications device, an indication of one of a plurality of network operators or an indication one of a plurality of inter radio access technology or frequency selection priority. The transmission of data can be therefore prioritising for a quality of service flow/radio bearer in accordance with a more diverse range of options and circumstances than are conventionally available. For example the infrastructure equipment may be shared by different operators for which the relative priority indicator can be used to prioritise the transmission of data for one operator, which may own the infrastructure equipment over another operator.
