    • An improved fuel level responsive peelaway action valve for vehicle fuel tanks, in which a float moves a valve closure element into sealing contact with a vapor venting outlet, and then pulls or “peels” the valve element off the vapor venting outlet when fuel level drops. The valve closure element comprises a thin, flexible sealing portion for engaging the vapor venting outlet with low sealing forces, and a stiffened marginal portion acted on by a rigid cage or frame which is connected to the float. As the float drops, the cage contacts the stiffened marginal portion and levers the valve element off the venting outlet.

    • A combination rollover/vent valve, fuel pump and fuel level sender which is installed through a single access opening in the top of a fuel tank. The rollover/vent valve has a resilient mounting strip attached and the rollover/vent valve is attached to the fuel pump level sender module by a substantially rigid vent tube and the vent tube is ported exteriorly through the module. Upon insertion of the rollover/vent valve through the access opening, the mounting strip engages ratchet teeth formed in the top and bottom of the tank to secure the rollover/vent valve at a location of the highest level of the tank, remote from the module. The module thus locates the vent line, fuel feed line and electrical connections all at a single location on the tank top. The vent tube may be formed to a curved configuration to accommodate a dished or recessed tank top.

    • A remotely actuatable diagnostic valve biased normally open is disposed in the air inlet of a vehicle fuel tank vapor storage canister and a thermistor disposed to sense vapor temperature above the liquid level in the fuel tank. Upon engine shutdown, the valve is remotely actuated to close. When the fuel vapor in the tank cools to form a vacuum in the tank, the vacuum overcomes the valve bias and holds the valve shut when the valve is remotely de-actuated. A valve position sensor provides confirmation that the valve has been held shut by the vapor vacuum when the valve is de-actuated. If a leak exists the vacuum will be insufficient to hold the valve closed after remote de-actuation; and, the valve is biased open, whereupon the valve position sensor provides a fault indication signal.

    • A fuel tank vent valve disposed between the tank and a carbon canister to provide high volume venting between the tank and the canister under normal operating conditions. A diaphragm type control element within the valve pulls an internal valve plate against a seat when the filler pipe cap is removed thereby to close off the vent between the tank and the canister. In one embodiment drainage throughbore is provided in the control element and valve plate to drain liquid fuel which might otherwise collect on and disable the diaphragm control element. In another embodiment the vent valve is provided with a reverse flow flap valve. In another embodiment the vent valve is provided with purge protection apparatus. The system operates with a filler pipe door seal of the type which is opened by the introduction of a filler nozzle. The vent valve is primarily constructed of molded plastic parts.
