    • A precision double bending beam load cell made at low cost by using load cell quality material in the bending beams only, while less costly material is used for end blocks to maintain the beams in a predetermined parallel relationship and to mount the load cell, provided that the joints between the beams and the end blocks are slip free. Slip free joints can be obtained by making the end blocks in the form of rods with necks press fitted into matching holes at the ends of the beams, or by laser welding or hard soldering metal end blocks to metal bending beams. Plastic end blocks can also be injected molded onto the ends of bending beams with holes and scalloped edges for the injection molded plastic to grip onto. Shrinkage or expansion of the plastic material during the curing process will then make the joints prestressed and slip free.

    • A display device illustrates the ability of a tire which is designed for rain traction to move through a fluid as compared to a standard tire. The display device comprises a sealed rectangular box having a bottom, two sides, two ends and a lid. Pivoting means is associated with the box which is adapted to alternately rotate one end of the box higher than the other. A fluid contained within the box to provide resistance to the movement of objects through the box and means are provided for observing the movement of objects in the box. In the illustrated embodiment, an object made to resemble a standard radial tire, and an object in the shape of a tire with a deep, wide center groove (a rain tire) are enclosed in the box. In its operation, the box is tilted on the pivot so that one end of the box is raised higher than the other, and the objects are observed as they traverse to the lower end of the box.

    • An annunciator to indicate the presence of a truck on a weighing platform to a weigh station operator is disclosed. The apparatus includes a presence sensor operable in response to the weight of the truck on the scales. The sensor provides a signal to a discriminator circuit which, depending upon the length of the signal from the presence sensor, determines whether the truck is merely passing over the scales or has stopped on the scales to be weighed. The discriminator produces an output causing a signaling device to operate and indicate to the operator of the weigh station that a truck is on the scales and is ready to be weighed.
