    • A Z-directed component for mounting in a mounting hole in a printed circuit board according to one example embodiment includes a body having a top surface, a bottom surface and a side surface. The body has a cross-sectional shape that is insertable into the mounting hole in the printed circuit board. A portion of the body is composed of an insulator. A first conductive channel extends through an interior portion of the body along the length of the body from the top surface to the bottom surface. The first conductive channel forms a signal path through the body. A second conductive channel and a third conductive channel each extends through the interior portion of the body along the length of the body. The second and third conductive channels are positioned next to and on opposite sides of the first conductive channel.

    • A Z-directed variable value component for insertion into a printed circuit board while allowing electrical connection to internal conductive planes contained with the PCB. The Z-directed variable value component mounts in a printed circuit board (PCB) having a mounting hole having a depth D therein and a plurality of conductive traces and comprises an insulative body of a length L comprising a top surface; a bottom surface; a side surface between the top and bottom surfaces; a cross-sectional shape that is insertable into the mounting hole in the PCB; and a first and a second electrically conductive channels on the side surface with the first channel and second channel both extending from one of the top and bottom surfaces; a plateable strip disposed on the side surface intermediate the top and bottom surfaces; and a first and second conductor disposed within the body, the first conductor electrically connected to the first channel and one end of the plateable strip and the second conductor electrically connected to the second channel and the other end of the plateable strip. In one form the plateable strip is comprised of a resistive material. In another form the plateable strip is comprised of a material having an electrical characteristic that changes when plating is applied to the strip after installation of the Z-directed component in the mounting hole of the PCB.

    • An electrophotographic image forming apparatus transfers image information relating to an image to be formed on a medium, while maintaining desired low levels of electromagnetic emissions. The apparatus includes an image processor that generates low-frequency image information signals containing the image information. A low-frequency interface is connected to the image processor for transferring the low-frequency image information signals. A control circuit, connected to the low-frequency interface, receives the low-frequency image information signals generated by the image processor. The control circuit operates on the low-frequency image information signals to form a high-frequency image information signal therefrom, where the high-frequency image information signal contains the image information. The apparatus also includes a high-frequency interface connected to the printhead control circuit for transferring the high-frequency image information signal. An image formation device, connected to the high-frequency interface, forms an image on the medium. The image formation device forms the image based on the image information contained within the high-frequency image information signal.

    • A spread spectrum clock generator (SSCG) control and inspection circuit provides a system and method for inspecting and controlling an external SSCG, and for verifying the modulation profile waveform of an external SSCG. An electronic circuit is included that can check for the presence of an optimal SSCG modulation profile in product subsystems, and in attached modular systems, including electronic plug-in features such as internal network adapters and cartridges. In one mode of the invention, an electronic circuit ensures continued radiated emissions compliance for field replaceable units or consumable parts within a product, such as a printer, a scanner, or a combination (or all-in-one) printer/scanner. In another mode of the invention, an electronic circuit may also act as a secondary security device for consumable products, such as toner cartridges or ink jet cartridges. In yet another mode of the invention, an electronic circuit may also adjust the attached SSCG clock.
