    • A sock pair retention apparatus includes a resilient membrane which includes a plurality of resilient flap members formed within the membrane. The resilient flap members are oriented in a common plane when in a relaxed mode and are deformed out of the plane when in a sock-retention mode. When one or more socks is pushed between the resilient flap members, the resilient flap members are pushed out of the plane and are in a sock-retention mode. The resiliency of the resilient flap members serves to lock the socks in the sock pair retention apparatus of the invention. The socks can be removed from the sock pair retention apparatus by simply pulling the socks completely through the membrane. The sock pair retention apparatus enables pairs of socks to remain together through washing and drying. When the socks are removed from the membrane, the resilient flap members can return to their relaxed mode. A frame member can be connected to a periphery of the membrane. The frame member defines a frame-enclosed region. The frame member has a frame height, and the resilient flap members have a flap thickness. The frame height is greater than the flap thickness. With another embodiment of the invention, additional frame portions provide a second frame-enclosed region, whereby one sock can be retained in each frame-enclosed region.

    • An array of interconnected node units for data handling, processing or data storage may be formed as an integrated circuit on a semiconductor wafer or as separate elements of a fault-tolerant computer. Each node unit includes a controlled switch for routing signal packets to destination node units whose addresses are included in the packets. Some node units include a data processor and/or memory together with a packet generator and a packet receiver. The controller of a switch stores details of which adjacent node units are not working and directs signal packets on paths round the non-working node units. The signal packets include a handedness bit to indicate to which side of a non-working node unit they are to be directed. The handedness bit is changed by node units at the edge of the array.

    • Among other things, a case forming system is provided. The system includes a conveyance apparatus for conveying case precursors along a conveyance path and a case set-up apparatus characterized by a case forming member. Upstream case precursors are conveyed along the conveyance path for operation thereupon by the case forming member. A case forming mandrel of a mandrel assembly is movably mounted in relation to the conveyance apparatus for continuous motion with respect thereto. The continuous motion is delimited by travel of the case forming mandrel between an upstream locus and a downstream locus of the conveyance path, and reversible extension of the case forming mandrel towards case precursors during travel between the upstream locus and the downstream locus of the conveyance path.
