    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical system for an optical pickup in which a sufficiently long operating range is secured and a good aberration characteristic is maintained even when there are an objective lens shift and a coupling lens eccentricity. SOLUTION: The optical system for the optical pickup is provided with a coupling lens in which radius of curvature of a first surface located at a light source side and radius of curvature of a second surface located at an optical disk side satisfy a prescribed condition, a non-spherical surface having a positive amount of sphericality at a maximum effective diameter is provided on one surface and a meniscus shape is provided having projection on the optical disk side and a common objective lens for each optical disk. Spherical aberration of the total system is corrected by spherical aberration of diverging beams being incident on the objective lens while a first optical disk is used and the spherical aberration generated by the objective lens or the like. Coma aberration of the entire system caused by objective lens shift is corrected by cancellation of coma aberration equivalent component of laterally shifted spherical aberration possessed by diverging beams emitted from the coupling lens and the coma aberration component generated by the objective lens.
