    • A control circuit of a DC/DC converter is provided for supplying a driving voltage to a light emitting element. A hysteresis comparator compares a detection voltage that corresponds to the output voltage of the DC/DC converter with two threshold voltages. If the detection voltage is smaller than the lower threshold voltage, the hysteresis comparator outputs a comparison signal at the low level. Otherwise, the comparison signal is set to the high level. The switching control unit uses the comparison signal as a reference. The switching control unit instructs the switching transistor of the DC/DC converter to perform the switching operation during a period when the comparison signal is at the low level. Otherwise, the switching operation is suspended. The control circuit inhibits light emission of the light emitting element during a period when the comparison signal is at the low level. Otherwise, the control circuit permits the light emission.

    • A booster converter outputs a boosted voltage. A plurality of LEDs emit light of respective colors. The transistors establish or shut connection between the LEDs and a main driving circuit. A variable current circuit feeds a current to drive the LEDs. A PWM control unit effects control to cause the LEDs to emit light with respective tones of color. A PWM circuit executes PWM modulation in accordance with an instruction from the PWM control unit. A setting control unit 138 controls the magnitude of the driving current fed by the variable current circuit in accordance with an instruction from a second light emission control unit. In an image pickup mode, an additional driving circuit feeds a driving current to the LEDs so that the LEDs operate as an electronic flash.

    • An LCD panel module includes a common boosting converter, an LCD boosting circuit, an LDO control circuit, and constant current circuits for parallel-connected LED elements and series-connected LED elements. The LCD panel module is so configured that a type-switching unit can switch over between Type 1 in which the LED elements are connected in parallel and Type 2 in which the LED elements are connected in series. The common boosting converter preliminarily boosts a battery voltage supplied from a lithium ion battery to a low voltage or a high voltage and supplies the boosted voltage to the parallel-connected LED elements or series-connected LED elements respectively. The LCD boosting circuit boosts the low voltage and supplies it to an LCD panel, while the LDO control circuit steps down the high voltage and supplies it to the LCD panel.
