    • PURPOSE: To obtain an inexpensive optical attenuator which is free from the fluctuation in a light attenuation quantity by axis misalignment and is easily producible by setting the outside diameter of the clad of an optical fiber at the same size as the outside diameter of the ferrule of an optical connector. CONSTITUTION: This optical attenuator consists of a core 11 and the clad 12 in common use as the ferrule having the same outside diameter as the outside diameter of the conventional zirconia ferrule having a refractive index difference from the core 11 and is provided with a filter 13 for optical attenuation within a groove 14 so as to shut off the core 11. The optical attenuator is produced by forming a preform similar to the product in the ratio of the outside diameter of the core to the outside diameter of the conventional product and drawing and stretching the preform in the same manner as for the general optical fibers. Then, the technique for precise molding of the optical fiber is applicable as it is and the drastic cost reduction is possible as the continuous production is possible. Since there is no combination of the ferrule made of, for example, the zirconium and the optical fiber like heretofore, the production is simplified and the factor for fluctuation of the light attenuation quantity decreases.

    • PURPOSE:To obtain the non-reflection optical terminal plug which has high reliability and is small and economical by polishing the rear ends of the capillary at the rear end of a zirconia ferrule and the optical fiber built therein so as to incline with an optical axis. CONSTITUTION:The capillary 13 is inserted into the rear end of the zirconia ferrule 10. The rear ends of the capillary 13 existing at the rear end of the zirconia ferrule 10 and the optical fiber 14 built therein are polished so as to incline at a prescribed angle or above with the optical axis. Namely, the front end of the ferrule 10 is formed to a projecting spherical shape and the rear end of the ferrule is polished diagonally with the optical axis, by which this ferrule 1 is completed. The capillary 13 is previously inserted into the rear end of the ferrule and an extremely thin adhesive layer merely exists between the fine hole of the capillary 13 and the optical fiber 14 and, therefore, the optical fiber end face is well polished by an ordinary polishing method. The polishing operation is made easier than for zirconia by constituting the capillary 13 of glass.
