    • Disclosed is a high-solid curable resin composition which forms a coated film having excellent acid rain resistance, mar resistance and appearance comprising: a) 10 to 70 % by weight of an acrylic polycarboxylic acid having 2 or more carboxyl groups per molecule on an average, an acid value of 5 to 300 mg KOH/g (solid) and a number-average molecular weight of 500 to 8000; b) 5 to 70 % by weight of a polyester polycarboxylic acid having an acid value of 50 to 350 mg KOH/g (solid), a number-average molecular weight of 400 to 3500 and a ratio of weight-average molecular weight to number-average molecular weight of 1.8 or less, which is obtained by reacting a polyester polyol having 3 or more hydroxyl groups with an acid anhydride group-containing compound; and c) 10 to 80 % by weight of a polyepoxide having an epoxy equivalent of 50 to 700 and a number-average molecular weight of 200 to 10000; provided that amounts of the components (a) to (c) being based on weight of the total solid contained in the curable resin composition.

    • A process for producing a water-dispersible resin composition comprising: the step of conducting free-radical polymerization of a starting mixture composed of: (a) 10-95 wt.% of a water-insoluble resin having a solubility in water of 1 or less and (b) 90-5 wt.% of a monomer mixture composed of (1) 2-75 wt.% of an ethylenically unsaturated acid monomer and (2) 98-25 wt.% of another ethylenically unsaturated monomer in the presence of a polymerization initiator, and the step of neutralizing the obtained acidic resin composition with a neutralizing agent. The obtained composition provides a coating composition which is improved in shelf stability and solid content, stable, and excellent in workability in coating. As well-dispersible resin particles serve to improve coating film uniformity, the coating film obtained from the composition is improved in transparency, smoothness, chemical and water resistances, and mechanical strength.
