    • A dielectric filter with integral electromagnetic shielding comprises a dielectric block having an outer surface including first and second end surfaces and a side surface extending between the first and second end surfaces; an external conductor disposed on the outer surface of the dielectric block and providing integral electromagnetic shielding of the dielectric filter; at least one hole extending through the dielectric body between the first and second end surfaces, having a respective inner surface with a substantially constant cross-sectional shape; a respective pair of internal conductors provided in the at least one hole and conductively connected to the external conductor at respective ends of the hole, a respective non-conductive portion in the hole being spaced from both ends and thereby separating the pair of internal conductors and defining a respective capacitance between the pair of internal conductors, a surface of the respective non-conductive portion being substantially flush with the rest of the inner surface of the hole; and signal input and output electrodes provided on the outer surface of the dielectric body and electrically isolated from the external conductor. Conductive and possibly dielectric material is removed from an end surface of the dielectric block to adjust the resonance frequency and/or the coupling degree of the dielectric filter.

    • In a dielectric filter comprising a dielectric block having outer conductors formed on the outer surfaces of the dielectric block, first and second arrays of through holes are formed in the dielectric block and have inner conductors formed on the inner surfaces thereof. A plurality of stages of dielectric resonators are constructed by the inner conductors formed in the through holes of the first array, the dielectric substance of the dielectric block and the outer conductors formed on the dielectric block, and the neighboring resonators of the first array are coupled to one another to form a band pass filter portion.     • A compact dielectric band elimination filter, which is composed of fewer components and can be produced in fewer production steps, uses a resonator apparatus having a dielectric block with a plurality of throughholes each containing an inner conductor and serving as a resonator. Capacitor electrodes are formed on a main surface of the block such that series-connected resonant capacitors are provided with the inner conductors inside the throughholes. The resonator apparatus is mounted on a substrate of a layered structure having an inductor thereon. Each trap frequency of the filter associated with one of the resonators can be adjusted by making adjustments on the associated resonator without affecting the characteristics of the adjacent resonators, by forming a larger-diameter part and a smaller-diameter part separated by a step inside each throughhole or by using a dielectric block having a wider part and a narrower part through which throughholes with a uniform inner diameter are formed, such that the even-mode input impedance and odd-mode input impedance of each resonator will be equal to zero at the trap frequency associated therewith.

    • A plasma ignition system includes an ignition plug attached to an engine and having a center electrode, a ground electrode, and a discharge space, a discharge power source circuit, a plasma generation power source circuit, a resistance element between the discharge power source circuit and the center electrode, a rectifying device between the plasma generation power source circuit and the center electrode, and an element receiving portion in a periphery of the center electrode. The plug puts gas in the discharge space into a plasma state to ignite a fuel/air mixture in the engine, as a result of application of high voltage to the plug by the discharge power source circuit and supply of high current to the plug by the plasma generation power source circuit. The resistance element and the rectifying device are placed in the receiving portion.
