摘要： Devices, systems and methods are described for providing muscle contraction stimulation therapy to treat myriad diseases, including heart failure, Type 2 diabetes, and peripheral vascular disease using a skin patch or implantable stimulator that includes a multiplicity of electrodes, a processor, a stimulation circuit, one or more sensors and programming for a patient interface unit, wherein the processor is programmed to control selection of a subset of the multiplicity of electrodes and of operation of the stimulation circuit responsive to an indication of an adverse physiologic response. The indication of patient discomfort may be determined by monitoring a physiologic parameter of the subject using the one or more sensors, by direct input from the subject via the patient interface unit programming, or a combination thereof. The devices, systems and methods also provide for automatically optimizing the stimulation parameters applied by the stimulation circuit responsive to feedback from the one or more sensors and/or by using direct input from the subject.

摘要： This invention is an electrical stimulation apparatus for delivering an electrical field or electrical current over a predetermined period of time to a vascular tissue (150) in order to stimulate a cell initiated thrombolytic peptide response in cells within the vascular tissue. The electrical stimulation apparatus includes an electrical field or electrical current generating unit including a power support , a control mechanism interconnected with the power supply , and a plurality of electrodes designed to generate an electrical field or electrical current proximal to, or within to the vascular tissue. The amplitude of the electrical field or electrical current delivered to or generated proximal to, or within the vascular tissue, and the duration of the period of delivery are sufficient to stimulate production of thrombolytic peptides in the vascular tissue. The control mechanism preferably includes a computer processing unit in electronic communication with the power supply, the computer being programmed to cause the electrical stimulation apparatus to deliver a predetermined amount of electricalcurrent or voltage over a predetermined period of delivery to the plurality of electrodes such that the plurality of electrodes are in contact or proximity with the vascular tissue.

摘要： In general, the invention is directed to methods and devices for determining an ion concentration in the extracellular fluid of a patient. As examples, the ion may be one or more of potassium, sodium, chloride, or calcium. A system includes an electrode deployed in or near a tissue, such as a skeletal muscle, of the patient. A pulse generator supplies one or more stimulations to the tissue, and a sensor, such as an accelerometer, detects the response of the tissue to the stimulations. A processor determines a concentration of ions in the extracellular fluid as a function of the response. The system may detect an ion imbalance based upon the determined concentration of ions.
