    • Methods and apparatus are provided for paging enhancement for the UE in the LC-MTC mode. In one novel aspect, the UE determines if the UE is in CE mode, obtains a set of narrow-band resource blocks reserved for LC-MTC paging messages and decodes a paging message based on the obtained narrow-band resource blocks. In one embodiment, the paging message occupies a predefined narrow band resource blocks without control information. In another embodiment, MPDCCH is used as control message to schedule narrow-band paging messages. In one embodiment, the MPDCCH searching space comprises a paging narrow-band selected from the set of narrow bands based on a UE ID. In another novel aspect, methods for PO detection are provided. The UE obtains a set of common paging narrow-bands from a higher layer configuration, determines a paging occasion to monitor paging message, decodes paging messages within the obtained common paging narrow-band, and performs combination.

    • Methods for transmitting a waveform in the wireless communication networks are provided. A method for UE to transmit to an eNB an uplink channel carrying data or control information bits, comprising : receiving a downlink channel occupying a set of downlink resource elements, where each downlink resource element has a downlink subcarrier spacing in the frequency domain and a downlink symbol duration in the time domain; generating a SC-FDMA based uplink channel from the information bits, where the uplink channel occupies a set of uplink resource elements and each uplink resource element has a uplink subcarrier spacing in the frequency domain differing from the downlink subcarrier spacing, and a uplink symbol duration in the time domain differing from the downlink symbol duration; and transmitting the SC-FDMA based uplink channel. In one embodiment, the information bits are uplink data information bits. In another embodiment, the information bits are uplink control information bits.

    • Methods and apparatus are provided for narrowband UEs. In one novel aspect, frequency hopping is used. The UE stays on the first frequency band for consecutive number of subframes before hopping to another frequency band. In another embodiment, the first set of resource elements and the second set of resource elements are discontinued with a gap in the time domain. In another novel aspect, the UE obtains sub-band information and a resource index and generates a communication channel for data frame transmission and receiving. In one embodiment, the UE further acquires the sub-band set information through system information. In yet another embodiment, the resource index is acquired from DCI. In yet another novel aspect, resource blocks are selected for a PUCCH for a narrowband UE. The UE determines an operating sub-band information and selects one or more narrowband regions for the PUCCH.

    • Methods and apparatus are provided for paging transmission and reception for UEs requiring coverage extension/coverage enhancement. In one novel aspect, the UE reports the CE status to the MME. CE level related information and the corresponding cell ID are provided from eNB to MME. MME sends paging information including the repetition number to all eNBs in the corresponding tracking area when paging the UE. In another novel aspect, a paging area is used for CE UEs. The UE receives paging area information, notifies the network, and updates the stored paging area information upon detecting changes between the received and the stored paging areas. In another embodiment, the UE reports its CE status upon detecting CE status changes. The eNB stores UE CE information and forwards it to neighboring eNBs in the same paging area. The eNB pages UEs on its CE UE list with repetition while paging other UEs normally.
