    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To always secure data to be transferred by controlling plural optical pickups (certain and other pickups) so that the reproduction result of both of unit reproduction steps of the plural optical pickups whose positions and reproducing operations are controllable independently constitutes a sreies of reproduction data including a reproduction requirement capacity to read the data at high speed. SOLUTION: A CPU 15 controls respective parts of a device and a first optical pickup 3 (first PU) is moved to the readout requirement position and starts a reading after it completes its movement. A second pickup 3 (second PU) is moved from the readout requirement position of the first PU to the readout completion position of one reproduction unit and starts the reading of a second reproduction unit after it completes its movement. In the midway in which the second PU reads data, the first PU completes the reading of the first reproduction unit to store them in a buffer memory 17 and it is moved again to the readout completion position of the second PU and starts the reading of the third reproduction unit after it completes its movement. Thus, the device becomes reactable to the data requirement of a host computer 14 at high speed by repeating these operations.
