    • A system for managing I/O requests directed to a disk array comprises a processing unit, predetermined amounts of Random Access Memory (RAM) and Read-Only Memory (ROM), an operating system, a virtual disk driver, an input device, an output device, and a disk array. The virtual disk driver comprises a request modification memory, a pending queue, an active queue, a stripe buffer, a span buffer, and a parity buffer. The system breaks each I/O request received into one or more subrequests according to request type, request length and the storage capacity of a sector-row within the disk array. Subrequests are entered into a pending queue in first-in, first-out (FIFO) order. Subrequests within the pending queue corresponding to write operations directed to a common sector-row are merged into a corresponding array request. Each array request is stored in an active queue. Once the number of array requests exceeds a predetermined constant, each array request is issued to the RAID type disk array.A method for managing I/O requests directed to a disk array comprises the steps of: determining when a virtual disk I/O request directed to the disk array has been received; dividing each virtual disk I/O request into a number of subrequests based upon the request type, the length of the request, and the storage capacity of a sector-row; inserting each subrequest into the pending queue in FIFO order; merging subrequests in the pending queue associated with a write operation directed to an identical sector-row into an array request; storing the array request in the active queue; and issuing each array request in the active queue to the disk array.

    • A debris containment system includes channel units that are configured to attach to perimeter structural members of the building (e.g., vertical columns and/or horizontal beams) and extend outward from the perimeter of the building. Channel units can be produced in any length or lengths needed for a given application. These channel units are used to lift and support barrier members (e.g., nets, tarps, canvas/fabric, or other barrier members) to create barriers along the perimeter of the building. Importantly, these channel units are generally attached directly or indirectly (e.g., via temporary vertical members) to structures that will remain on the building (e.g., structural columns and beams of the building) as opposed to being used with separate framing structures erected outside of the building perimeter, although in some exemplary embodiments, channel units can be used on structures erected outside of the perimeter of the building.

    • Fixed amounts of granular and granulated seasonings are dispensed from a rotatable disc that lies flat or horizontal and which includes a through-hole or void. The void is gravity-filled with granulated seasonings from a hole in the bottom of a hopper. A screen below the disc is formed to have open, through-holes and a solid land. The void in the disc fills with granules when the void is beneath a hole in the hopper but over a solid land thus preventing granules to spill through the disc. Rotation of the disc moves the void away from the land, allowing granules in the void to fall through holes in the screen. A gasket provides a seal between the disc and the hopper. The disc is rotated back and forth around its axis by vertical movement of an actuator about the horizontal hinge.

    • A gravity-fed, manually-operable dispenser for sugar, creamer and other particles and granules is comprised of a particulate reservoir affixed to a dispensing base by engagement tabs and slots. The tabs and slots allow the dispenser to be easily disassembled for maintenance and cleaning. The base encloses a substantially cylindrical rotating measuring/dispensing vane that has several hollow apertures into which particulates flow from the reservoir. The vane rides on a smooth, flat surface that seals or closes off the apertures. An opening in the flat surface of the dispensing base allows particulates in a full aperture to fall through and out of the base. A soft gasket over surfaces of the vane that would otherwise make direct contact with the base portion prevent the vane from becoming lodged in place by crystalline material.

    • A food warming apparatus has a heating compartment for maintaining previously cooked food portions in a ready-to-use condition. The food portions are contained in a tray that is placed in a tray handler. The tray handler may include a frame for receiving the tray, a handle, and rollers. A tray handler guide in the heating compartment has a guide surface on which the rollers are able to roll and stops for engaging the rollers at a maintenance position and an access position. In the maintenance position, the tray is positioned inside the heating compartment so that the food portions are maintained in a ready-to-use condition. In the access position, a user is able to access food portions in the tray. At the maintenance and access positions, the user may sense the engagement of the rollers by sensing that the tray handler's motion is impeded but not prevented.
