A disk drive includes a controller configured to generate a position error signal indicative of a displacement of a read/write head from a desired location on a surface of a disk, and to generate a control signal for moving the read/write head to the desired location. The controller is further configured to inhibit writing by the read/write head responsive to a predictive metric that is predictive of the position error signal exceeding a threshold.

    • A method of compressing digital representations of images stores the images in multiple subsampling quality scales in a progressive manner such that a higher quality scale contains only data incremental to the data in an adjacent lower quality scale. The data in each quality scale is transformed, quantized, and entropy encoded. A discrete wavelet cosine transformation combining frequency transformation features of a discrete cosine transformation and spatial transformation features of a wavelet transformation is provided. Sequences of subsampling quality scales are provided for multi-scale representations of images. A novel context selection method is used which treats color components and coefficients of different positions differently. An image compressed in a given quality scale can be transmitted or decompressed progressively allowing progressive downloading or transmission over the Internet.

    • A hybrid imaging technique, applicable to at least magnetic resonance imaging with generalized excitation profiles, addresses the problem of visualizing spatial encoding. The invention is an improvement on both the multi-slice and the Fourier encoding techniques, each of which is a special case representing an extreme of the range of allowable values to the number of phase-encoding steps. Therefore, use of values for this parameter in between these two ends achieves a new hybrid technique having varying degrees of similarity to both known techniques. The inventive technique can be close to non-redundant if implemented properly. Comparison to images to those from conventional Fourier encoding is favorable. The invention is also applicable to many other imaging applications such as in magnetic resonance angiography.

    • The present disclosure relates to a multi-spectrum photosensitive device and manufacturing method thereof. The multi-spectrum photosensitive device comprises at least one opaque base layer; each base layer having at least two sides, at least two of the sides are provided with photosensitive pixel groups, each photosensitive pixel group is used for sensing light of either spectrum irradiated from the obverse direction of the located side. Alternatively, the multi-spectrum photosensitive device comprises at least one transparent base layer; each base layer having at least two sides, at least two of the sides are provided with photosensitive pixel groups, each photosensitive pixel group is used for sensing light of interested spectrum irritated from the obverse direction or reverse direction of the located side. The present invention could be used to simultaneously sense different views of two directions or to sense a view of one direction by using the same sensing device to carry out double-direction sensing, thereby improving the performance of sensing device.
