    • A joint assembly for controlling fractures along a fracture axis in a monolithic pour concrete structure is provided. The concrete structure is defined by a first edge form section and a generally opposed second edge form section. The joint assembly is characterized by a suspension line extending between the first edge form section and the second edge form section, and a fracture inducing sheath suspended therefrom within the concrete structure. The sheath may define an elongate slit that exposes an internal channel that the suspension line traverses. Additionally, a method for forming a control joint in a monolithic pour concrete structure via the joint assembly is provided.

    • A surface seeded exposed particulate concrete method of use includes use of small particulates, the particulates not necessarily chemically inert in the concrete mixture. The particulates are broadcast over the upper surface of the concrete, and mixed into the cement paste derived from the concrete matrix by floats and finished by hand sponging. A surface retarder and vapor barrier are applied, and washing and curing operations follow. The present invention adds a chemical treatment of hydrolyzed alkali silica solution, preferably lithium quartz, penetrating the upper surface of the concrete mixture with minerals and silicates within the concrete mix. The resultant exposed particulate concrete has extreme flatness and high wear resistance suitable for high-traffic flooring applications, aesthetics resembling terrazzo or ceramic tile at a fraction of the price, and the strength and resistance to corrosion expected of concrete surfaces.

    • An improved method of producing surface seeded exposed aggregate concrete upon a subgrade. The method comprises the initial step of pouring a concrete mixture over the subgrade, which is followed by the step of finishing the exposed surface defined by the concrete mixture with a vibrating metal bull float to dispose a quantity of cement/fines paste derived from the concrete mixture at the exposed surface thereof. Thereafter, a quantity of aggregate is broadcast upon the exposed surface of the concrete mixture and subsequently mixed into the quantity of cement/fines paste thereof via the vibrating metal bull float. The exposed surface of the concrete mixture is then finished with a power trowel to facilitate an even distribution of the quantity of aggregate within the quantity of cement/fines paste, which is followed by the application of a surface retarder to the exposed surface of the concrete mixture. The exposed surface of the concrete mixture is then finished with the power trowel to massage the surface retarder into the quantity of cement/fines paste having the quantity of aggregate mixed therein.

    • A concrete dowel placement apparatus comprising a base member and an elongate, tubular dowel receiving sheath which is connectible to the base member. The base member comprises an outer sleeve having first and second ends, and an inner sleeve which is disposed within the outer sleeve. Extending between the inner and outer sleeves is at least one reinforcement wall. Extending about the first end of the outer sleeve is a flange portion which defines a generally flat back surface. The inner sleeve defines an aperture which extends from the second end of the outer sleeve to the back surface of the flange portion, and is sized to accommodate a fastener such as a nail to facilitate the attachment of the base member to a concrete form subsequent to the abutment of the back surface of the flange portion thereagainst. The sheath has an open proximal end, a closed distal end, and a hollow interior comportment extending longitudinally therein, with the proximal end being slidably extensible over the outer sleeve such that the outer sleeve resides within the interior compartment.

    • A surface drainage structure formed above a subgrade may include an elongate drain conduit disposed partially within the subgrade. The elongate drain conduit may define at least one drain slot extending through a wall thereof. The structure may include a pavement layer with an exposed top surface and a drainage channel extending therefrom. The drainage channel may be in fluid communication with the drain slot of the elongate drain conduit. A method of forming the surface drainage structure includes placing the elongate drain conduit in the subgrade, forming the pavement layer, cutting an upper channel along the elongate drain conduit, and cutting a lower channel and the drain slot in the elongate conduit.

    • An improved surface seeded exposed particulate concrete and method of making the improved surface seeded exposed particulate concrete is disclosed. Small particulate is sprayed over the upper surface of the concrete. The particulate may be sprayed using a material sprayer. The particulate may be uniformly sprayed to distances exceeding twenty feet. The particulate is mixed into a cement paste derived from the concrete mixture using floats. A surface retarder is then applied to cover the concrete surface. Subsequently, any surface film is washed from the surface of the concrete and the concrete is cured. The result is a surface seeded particulate with an exposed surface that is flat and is suitable for high traffic areas. The resultant surface may resemble stone, granite or marble.

    • Disclosed are a concrete dowel placement devices and a method of utilizing the same. A metallic stud is driven, screwed, or otherwise attached to a form. The stud may be a unitary structure, or may be a hollow tube with conventional fastening means such as nails and screws extending through and holding the hollow tube to the form. A cover having an interior compartment substantially equal in diameter to the stud is slidably placed thereon, and a first enclosed area is developed with a plurality of forms. Concrete is poured into the first enclosed area, and upon curing, the form and the stud are removed, leaving the cover embedded in the concrete. A metallic dowel is inserted into the cover, and a second enclosed area is developed with like configured forms. The metallic dowel extends into the second enclosed area. Upon pouring concrete into the second enclosed area, a cold joint is formed between the concrete of the first enclosed area and the concrete of the second enclosed area, supported and braced by the metallic dowel.

    • A disc dowel system is interposed between adjacent first and second concrete pours defining a pour joint therebetween. The disc dowel system comprises a pocket former having a rib insert disposable therewithin for engaging the sides of a dowel plate. The pocket former has a vertical base flange with a pair of fastener-receiving bosses for securing the pocket former to a concrete form. The pocket former has a horizontally extending interior compartment with an open straight side that is aligned with the pour joint and is positioned within the first pour. The dowel plate has an orthogonal shape with an embedded portion and a slidable portion. The embedded portion is rigidly encapsulated within the second pour. The slidable portion is slidably disposed within the pocket former such that the dowel plate permits relative horizontal movement of the first and second pours while restricting relative vertical movement thereof.
