摘要： A Verress-type needle which has a sharpened outer needle and allows passage of a blunt inner needle within the outer needle. The Verress needle also contains a position indicator to indicate the position of the inner needle within the outer needle, so that the user knows whether the inner needle is in a protective or non-protective position. Further, a liquid level indicator demonstrates the path of liquid flow within the Verress-type needle. Finally, there is an acoustical enhancement mechanism, which allows the user to know whether the blunt inner needle has sprung forward within the abdominal cavity, to its most forward, protective position.

摘要： A propulsion system with at least one storage chamber containing at least one solid propellant and at least one fluid propellant is disclosed. The fluid propellant is retained under pressurized conditions, such that depressurization of the storage chamber substantially homogeneously disperses the at least one solid propellant in the at least one fluid propellant. A mixed-phase propellant can thereby be fed to a combustion chamber. The pressurized conditions under which the at least one fluid propellant is retained can include supercritical or critical conditions, saturation conditions, and conditions sufficient to provide a compressed gas.

摘要： A disposable laparoscopic single acting scissors is provided, and generally includes a hollow aluminum tube, a clevis coupled to a first end of the aluminum tube and including a pivot rod, a first scissors blade element having a pivot hole for pivotally engaging the pivot rod of the clevis, and having a through-hole in a base section of said first scissors blade element, a second scissors blade element fixedly engaging the clevis, a thin wire rod extending at least partially through the aluminum tube with a first end of the rod having a longitudinally offset terminal portion for engaging the through-hole of the base section of the first scissors blade element, and a plastic actuator engaged to the other end of the rod for imparting reciprocal motion to the rod relative to the aluminum tube which is translated at the clevis into pivotal motion of the first scissors blade element. The first scissors blade element is preferably formed from investment cast bronze.

摘要： A separately formed clevis of a disposable laparoscopic surgical instrument is provided. The clevis fixedly engages a hollow aluminum tube of the disposable laparoscopic surgical instrument and pivotally engages an end effector of the disposable laparoscopic surgical instrument. The clevis includes: a hollow first portion having a knurled outer surface having a diameter slightly smaller than the inner diameter of the aluminum tube, for fitting closely within the aluminum tube and for fixedly engaging the aluminum tube when the aluminum tube is crimped thereover; a second portion having a base section with a bore corresponding to the inner diameter of the hollow first portion, and a pair of parallel, spaced apart, opposed arm members integrally joined to the base portion at respective first ends of the opposed arm members and extending away from the hollow first portion; and a pivot rod which engages the opposed arms in a substantially transverse manner. The pair of arms preferably each are undercut with a groove on their outer surfaces to permit shrink wrap to be applied to the aluminum tube and clevis and to terminate in the grooves.

Each connecting element engages a reciprocally movable push rod having a first through-hole and a pivotally rotatable end effector having a second through-hole. The connecting element is preferably a resilient staple-like element having a first terminal portion configured to pivotally engage the first through-hole in the push rod, an oppositely extending second terminal portion configured to pivotally engage the second through-hole in the end effector, and a substantially U-shaped middle portion coupling the first and second terminal portions. Where a double acting surgical instrument is used, two connecting elements are required. For improved stability, the connecting elements of the double acting surgical instrument can be crossed.

摘要： Electrical conductors according to the invention include conductors made from a plurality of strands twisted around a central conductor, where the strands are fused to the central conductor but not to each other. According to a preferred embodiment, the central conductor is coated with a coating of a first material which may be melted to fuse the central conductor to the outer strands. In another preferred embodiment, the outer strands are also coated with a second conductive material which forms a eutectic mixture with the coating on the central conductor when heated to a temperature below the melting points of the first and second conductive materials. Alternate embodiments of the invention provide a eutectic mixture by choice of strand and central conductor material and/or coating. If desired, the conductor is deformed prior to melting the coating(s) such as by drawing or swaging to form a conductor with a substantially circular cross section or by rolling or drawing to form a conductor with a substantially rectangular cross section. In still another embodiment, the conductor is formed as a coil prior to melting the coating(s). The conductors of the invention exhibit enhanced electrical and physical characteristics and are particularly well suited for use in conducting VHF and UHF signals and for making coils.

Each of the plug and the earphone has first or second parts of a two-part connection device. The two-part connection device removably secures the plug and the earphone to one another. In an embodiment, the plug is the first part and the earphone has a plug-in portion as the second part. The plug-in portion defines a female port shaped to removably secure the plug therein and, when secured, forms a continuous loop with the cord, the plug, and the earphone. The plug-in portion can be integral with or removably attached to the earphone. The first and second parts can be a magnet and a magnetized piece, a hook-and-loop type fastener, or parts of a press-fit snap fastener.

摘要： A stent includes a central portion of helically wound undulations formed of struts, cylindrical end portions, and transition zones between the helical portion and the cylindrical portions. According to a first aspect of the invention, the torsional flexibility of the stent is maximized by having bridges connecting adjacent winding be interrupted by the maximum possible number of undulations. In a preferred design, each winding includes nineteen undulations around the circumference, bridges are provided every five undulations. According to a second aspect of the invention, uniform opening of the transition zone is achieved by altering the width, and thereby the flexibility, of a series of struts in accordance with their lengths. Specifically, the long transition zone struts are made wider.
