摘要： The accumulator regulates changes in the back pressure of an ink-jet pen reservoir so that ink does not leak from the pen print head and so that the print head is able to completely empty the reservoir of ink. The accumulator includes a flexible bag that is mounted to a flat curved spring. The elasticity of the spring tends to contract the bag as the bag expands in response to back pressure reduction in the reservoir.

摘要： The present invention is a replaceable ink container for use in a printing system. The printing system is of the type having a printhead mounted in a scanning carriage and a supply station for receiving the replaceable ink container. The supply station is in fluid communication with the printhead. The replaceable ink container includes a fluid outlet configured for engaging corresponding fluid inlet portions on the supply station. Also included is a first and second guide feature disposed on an outer surface of the replaceable ink container. The first and second guide features'are disposed and arranged to engage corresponding first and second guiding features disposed on opposite ends of the supply station to guide the replaceable ink container into the supply station to fluidically couple the fluid outlet and corresponding fluid inlet.

摘要： An ink supply for an ink-jet printer is provided with a main reservoir, which is typically maintained at ambient pressure. The main reservoir is coupled to a variable volume chamber via a one-way valve which allows the flow of ink from the reservoir to the chamber and prevents the flow of ink from the chamber to the reservoir. The chamber is coupled to a fluid outlet which is normally closed to prevent the flow of ink. However, when the ink supply is installed in a printer, the fluid outlet establishes a fluid connection between the chamber and the printer. The chamber is part of a pump provided with the ink supply that can be actuated to supply ink from the reservoir to the printer.

摘要： In a method and system for delivering ink within a printer, a reservoir and a portion of a tube are accelerated so as to generate an inertial flow of ink in the tube, where the tube is connected to the reservoir and in fluid communication with an ink supply. A valve is provided between the tube and the reservoir. The valve is closed to retain an amount of the inertial flow of ink in the reservoir when the inertial flow of ink is away from the reservoir. The tube is primed by moving the printer so as to elevate the ink supply relative to the reservoir in the printer. Foam may be provided within the reservoir which restricts the rate of flow by not allowing ink to be conducted from the reservoir when the foam is unsaturated.

A flag is connected to the collapsible supply cartridge so that the flag position changes relative to the path of the carriage movement as ink is depleted from the cartridge. The sensor detects the presence of the flag and the position change of the flag is precisely measured by the carriage motion control system. An indicition of the cartridge level derived from the flag position is provided.

摘要： A method for registering printer dots in a printer having separate cartridges or print bars which create dots on paper moving therebeneath. Commands are generated to drive a paper carrier past the cartridges. Machine readable targets on the paper carrier are scanned and a processor uses signals generated by the targets for measuring the distance traveled by the carrier between detection of the first and second marks. The difference between the measured distance and the distance which yields ideal registration is used to delay (or advance) dot firing to improve registration. In another aspect, targets comprising slots oriented transverse to paper movement and at a 45.degree. angle relative to paper movement are photolithographically engraved in nozzle plates. The slots are scanned to produce information about misregistration along an axis in the direction of paper movement and along an axis transverse thereto.

摘要： A flexible reservoir bladder is connected to the base of a pen body to define a reservoir volume that permits nearly all of the ink contained therein to be delivered from the pen by a print head. The back pressure developed within the reservoir volume is regulated by the resilient properties of the bladder and an orifice that permits controlled entry of air into the volume as the ink is depleted. The system is able to withstand severe environmental effects, such as a drop in ambient air pressure, while preventing pen leakage.
