    • An electrical connector for connecting insulated conductors to electrical terminals comprises a dielectric housing member having terminal-receiving passageways extending therethrough and conductor-receiving areas extending normal to the terminal-receiving passageways. Electrical terminals are secured in the terminal-receiving passageways; each of the terminals includes a contact section and a conductor-terminating section. The conductor-terminating section is formed of overlapping members having coincident slots, the outer angled edges of the slots adapted to cut through the insulation of the conductor when the conductor is forced into the slots and inner parallel edges of the slots adapted to score and electrically engage the conductive core of the conductor. A cover member has opposing leg members that extend along the overlapping members of the conductor-terminating sections as the leg members move into respective terminal-receiving passageways, the leg members having arcuate surfaces that will force the conductive cores of the conductors to the rounded bottoms of the coincident slots when the cover member is positioned on the housing member. The housing member and the cover member have latching members latching them together and the overlapping members of the conductor-terminating sections include securing barbs that engage the leg members thereby securing the cover member in position on the housing member and maintaining the conductive cores adjacent the rounded bottoms of the coincident slots.

    • An electrical connector comprises a connector plug part and a connector receptacle part, each part comprising a molded insert and a metal cylindrical shell within which the insert is fitted and retained. The insert of the receptacle part has passageways therethrough in which are secured electrical pin terminals and an integral hood which extends beyond the mating face of the receptacle insert and the shell of the receptacle part also has a hood which extends forwardly beyond the insert hood. The plug part comprises an insert in which passageways extend therethrough in which are secured electrical receptacle terminals and a shell which has an internal surface that is radially spaced from the external surface of the plug insert so that when the two parts are mated, the hood of the receptacle insert will be received between the external surface of the plug insert and the internal surface of the plug shell. The hood of the receptacle shell extends over the external surface of the plug shell when the parts are mated and threads or the like on the external surface of the receptacle shell hood are engaged by threads provided on the internal surface of a metal coupling ring which is rotationally mounted on the plug shell. A pin member extends across the threads and engages a groove in the threads of the receptacle shell hood and the coupling ring to provide an audible and tactile indication of a fully-mated condition of the plug and receptacle parts.

    • Multi-contact electrical connector comprises an insulating housing having contact terminals therein. The housing has oppositely facing endwalls on each of which there is provided a latching means for latching the connector to a complementary connecting device. Each latching means comprises a latch arm which extends forwardly beyond the mating end of the connector and a latching ear which cooperates with a latch arm on the complementary connecting device. The latch arms on the two endwalls are located on one side of a medial reference plane and the latch ears on the other side of the reference plane. The reference plane extends normally on the endwalls of the housing and parallel to the sidewalls. When the connector is coupled to an identical connector or other complementary connecting device, each terminal in the connector is coupled with a terminal in the complementary connecting device which occupies the same position in the complementary device as the terminal in the connector. The complementary device may be identical to the connector.
