摘要： An apparatus is described for use in reading bar code symbols. The apparatus can acquire two dimensional image representations. In one embodiment the apparatus can include an image sensor and can be configured to have an adjustable frame rate. The apparatus in another embodiment can include an image sensor and can have decoding circuitry processing two dimensional image representations having a number of picture elements different from the number of picture elements of the image sensor. In another embodiment an apparatus can calculate a rate of change of a plurality of image data element. An apparatus in another embodiment can be used to determine whether a candidate symbol region is present utilizing gray scale image data elements. In another embodiment an apparatus can be used to determine whether a finder pattern is represented in an image representation and select a finder pattern in accordance with an identified finder pattern.

摘要： A security document processing apparatus is provided having a feed path for receiving documents and at least one imaging assembly for capturing image data from documents received in the apparatus. The apparatus may include a material detection imaging assembly for detecting the material composition of certain materials on documents received in the apparatus. The material detection imaging assembly may detect material on a document by detecting transmissivity characteristics, or by sensing radiation emission characteristics of a document in the case received documents are of a type including radiation wavelength sensitive additives incorporated therein. Furthermore, a controller which controls the various imaging systems of the apparatus may be in communication with a lookup table correlating ticket identification codes with flag status indicators controlling various functions of the apparatus, so that operation of the apparatus is dependant at least in part on an identification code of a document received in the apparatus.

摘要： In a first embodiment of a material detection system according to the invention, a security document is disposed in an optical path between an infrared light source and image sensor so that the imaging system comprising the infrared light source, image sensor and associated controller determines characteristics of material compositions of a document based on transmissivity characteristics of a document. In a second embodiment, a radiation wavelength sensitive additive which emits energy in a second band of wavelengths when radiated in a first band of wavelengths is incorporated in a security document and detected for by an imaging system which detects for emitted radiant energy in the second band of wavelengths. In a third embodiment of a material detection system, the manufacturing of documents of various styles is controlled so that the various styles of documents exhibit similar reflectance characteristics under illumination by a predetermined narrow band source despite exhibiting dissimilar reflectance characteristics under white light.
