    • An optical reproducing device is provided with predetermined length mark signal measurement means which measures amplitude values of a 2T mark and an 8T mark, which are a short reproducing power control mark and a long reproducing power control marks, respectively, from information data recorded in an magneto-optical disk. Reproducing power of a light beam is controlled by a laser power control circuit, based on the amplitude values of the 2T mark and the 8T mark. The predetermined length mark signal measurement means detects a specific pattern including the 2T mark from a bit arrangement pattern of the information data, and measures the amplitude value of the 2T mark correponding only to the 2T mark included in the specific pattern. This structure can provide an optical reproducing device which can maintain the reproducing power at an optimum value and reduce the probability of reading errors, without reducing the utilization ratio of an optical recording medium.

    • In a recording method for an optical disk, an optical disk is used, in which concave and convex areas formed as concave and convex sections on the disk substrate are arranged along a track with constant intervals and a recording area for recording data of a predetermined number of units is placed between the concave and convex areas arranged with constant intervals. Upon recording information on this optical disk, a two-dimensional array is formed by adding addition data to input data, a first encoding parity is added to the two dimensional array by carrying out a first encoding process that forms a code sequence by using a data alignment in a diagonal direction, and a second encoding parity is added to the resulting two dimensional array by carrying out a second encoding process that forms a code sequence by using a data alignment in a row direction so that a second two dimensional array is formed. Then, data is successively recorded in the row direction. With this arrangement, it is possible to reduce the occurrence of an incorrectable error in the optical disk in which the recording areas are placed along the track with constant intervals.

    • A method and apparatus are provided for optimally controlling the width of recording marks formed by a light beam on an optical recording medium in an optical recording apparatus. The method is accomplished by selecting and storing in a storage device a predetermined optimal read signal value, and then setting a plurality of selectable predetermined recording conditions in the optical recording apparatus. These conditions differ from one another in the quantity of light in the light beam, or in the strength of an external magnetic field. In the optical recording apparatus, a set of first test patterns then are recorded by the light beam on separate first tracks of the optical recording medium under each of the predetermined conditions. Similarly, a second test track is recorded onto the optical recording medium under the same predetermined conditions adjacent to each of the first test tracks. The first test tracks are thereafter read by the optical recording apparatus, and the amplitude of the read signals is stored in the storage device, along with an indication of the predetermined recording signal condition under which it was generated. Finally, using a comparison device, the stored signal quantities are compared to the predetermined optimal read signal value. The optimal one of the predetermined recording conditions to be used by the optical recording apparatus is determined to be the condition associated with the one of the stored signals that most closely approximates the predetermined optimal signal value.

    • An information reproducing apparatus has (1) a reference signal generating circuit for generating a first reference signal corresponding to reproduced signal of the main information; (2) a first switching circuit for selecting one of the reproduced signal and the first reference signal; and (3) a controller, which generates a selection instructing signal, for controlling such that the reproduced signal is selected during reproducing of the main information recorded area while the first reference signal is selected during reproducing of the main information unrecorded area. With the arrangement, when the main information unrecorded area is reproduced, the clock for carrying out the reproducing of main information is synchronized with the first reference signal which corresponds to the reproduced signal. So, when the reproducing area is changed from the main information unrecorded area to the main information recorded area, the synchronizing with the reproduced signal is carried out in a short time, thereby improving the reliability of the reproducing process.
