    • An optical transmission apparatus and method for changing a rise time (tr) and fall time (tf) of a signal light to be transmitted, to reduce wavelength dispersion characteristics and nonlinear effect of a transmission path. A transmitter includes a trtf adjusting circuit capable of adjusting tr and tf of a modulation signal so that the modulation signal is optimized in accordance with reception characteristics. A modulator then modulates a light with this adjusted modulation signal, and the modulated light is then transmitted to a receiver via a transmission path. Therefore, by transmitting the modulated light having changed tr and tf, the influence of wavelength dispersion characteristics and nonlinear effect of the transmission path can be offset, so that the waveform deterioration of signal light after transmission can be reduced.

    • An object is to provide an optical transmission apparatus, an optical repetition apparatus and an optical transmission method in which the chirp polarity applied to an output signal light can be modified easily in accordance with the wavelength dispersion characteristics of a transmission path. Therefore, for example, with the optical transmission apparatus according to the invention a signal light of optical frequency fsig generated by a signal light generating device, and a probe light of optical frequency fp generated by a probe light generation device are input to a four wave mixing generation device having a nonlinear optical effect to generate various signal lights with optical frequencies of fsig, fp, 2×fsig−fp and 2×fp−fsig. One of the signal lights output from the four wave mixing generation device is selected by a signal light selection device and output to the transmission path. Consequently, the chirp applied to the signal light and the polarity thereof can be modified easily in accordance with the wavelength dispersion characteristics of the transmission path.

    • In a method of forming a thin light guide plate which includes a compression step in an injection molding step, an optical pattern is liable to be adhered to a mold. Further, in removing the light guide plate from the mold using an ejector pin, a stress is concentrated on a local area of the light guide plate thus generating warping, deformation or irregularities in size of the light guide plate. To overcome such drawbacks, a liquid crystal display device is configured such that an optical pattern portion is compressed, and the light guide plate is removed by making use of a peripheral portion of a mold thus preventing the generation of stress in a local area of the light guide plate due to an ejector pin.
