    • A method of driving a droplet jetting head having cavities for containing a predetermined liquid, piezoelectric elements, each for generating pressure in each cavity in accordance with an applied driving signal, and nozzle openings, from each of which the liquid compressed by each piezoelectric element is jetted as a droplet. The method includes driving the droplet jetting head by applying to one or more of the piezoelectric elements a forced jetting driving signal for forcedly jetting the liquid of half of an excluded volume, which is a maximum quantity removable from the cavity by compression using the piezoelectric element, from the nozzle opening. The clogged nozzle opening can be effectively cleared and clogging can be rapidly removed, so that the number of times for cleaning of the head is decreased and degradation in performance of the droplet jetting head, such as reduction in repellency of the liquid, does not occur.

    • A droplet jetting apparatus having a droplet jetting head including a nozzle opening formed in a nozzle formation surface, from which droplets of a predetermined liquid are jetted, and a capping device for capping the nozzle opening of the head. A moisture retentive liquid supply device connected to the capping device is provided for supplying a moisture retentive liquid with respect to the predetermined liquid to a space formed by the nozzle formation surface and the capping portion. The weight and the size of the head and its periphery, which is a movable body, are not specifically increased, and accordingly, increase in the cost for motors for driving the droplet jetting head is prevented, thereby effectively avoiding clogging in the nozzle opening of the droplet jetting head. In addition, it is unnecessary to move the droplet jetting head when the moisture retentive liquid is supplied.

    • The present invention provides a head drive unit capable of discharging a required amount of viscous body from a head having a pressure generating element, such as a piezoelectric element, and a method of the same, a droplet discharge unit having the head drive unit, a head drive program, and a device manufacturing method having a process of discharging the viscous body by the method as one of manufacturing processes. In the invention, a driving signal is a signal to be applied to a pressure generating element, such as a piezoelectric element, provided to a head and is generated in synchronization with a clock signal. The driving signal has a period to vary the voltage and a period to hold the voltage. The present invention can vary the rate of change in the voltage of the driving signal per unit time by setting a voltage variation during the period and the number of clocks of the clock signal held in the period as appropriate depending on the rate of deformation of the pressure generating element per unit time.
