    • A transport system of the type having a plurality of tube support members for independent transport of yarn packages to and between locations on a textile machine or machines can readily accommodate tube support members supporting different kinds and sizes of yarn packages due to novel constructions of the tube support members in accordance with the present invention. Each tube support member includes a base component compatibly dimensioned with respect to the guiding and tube support driving components of the transport system, a post component for support of a yarn package thereon, and a bumper component for protecting a supported yarn package against undesirable collisions and other impacts with other yarn packages or objects. In several variations of the tube support member, the bumper component extends radially outward beyond the base component as well as the yarn package itself so that the bumper component contacts tube support members or other objects first to thereby prevent collision of the yarn package with the tube support members or other objects. Several variations of the tube support member are particularly suited for supporting yarn packages of the type having a frusto-conical shape such as, for example, so-called cross-wound packages, and the bumper components of such tube support members are structured to protect such yarn packages even where the maximum diameter of the yarn package exceeds the diameter of the base component of the tube support member.

    • A yarn end preparing assembly for a textile winding machine wherein yarn packages are disposed on peg tray-type tube support members and transported to winding stations along a common preliminary path to a respective one of a plurality of yarn end preparation devices which have components for sequentially handling the yarn packages to dispose their yarn ends in preferred preliminary dispositions. The yarn end preparation devices are each disposed on a respective branch path which branches the common preliminary path. The relationship of the branch path to one another can be varied and the relationship of each component of the yarn end preparation devices relative to the same respective component on the other yarn end preparation devices can be varied to optimize the production capability of the yarn end preparing assembly. Sensors and pivotable arm members are provided to selectively guide the tube support members to the branch paths.

    • A tube transport assembly is provided for transporting yarn packages on a textile machine. The tube transport assembly includes a vertical transport component for transporting yarn packages between vertically spaced locations. Each yarn package, which is in the form of yarn built on a tube, is individually fixedly supported on a tube support member and each tube support member includes an engagement portion for engagement by a post of a carrier member to thereby effect support of the tube support member by the carrier member. The carrier members are mounted to a flexible endless belt at uniform spacings therealong and are moved in an upward run past a feed location at which tube support members are fed to the carrier members for engagment and support thereby. A pair of transfer plates at the feed location guide the tube support members being engaged by the carrier members to insure that the tube support members are fully seated on the carrier members. The tube transport assembly also includes a pair of release guide plates at a discharge location for effecting release of the tube support members from the carrier members.

    • A housing is mounted on a column outwardly of a package conveyor at the rear of the machine. A pair of support arms are connected to gears of a gear assembly in the housing and extend at a downward inclination inwardly toward the machine. One of the arms is mounted above the other arm and is longer so that package supporting rods extending from the ends of the support arms will be substantially parallel in a generally horizontal plane for receipt of packages positioned thereon at the winding station. The housing is vertically movable to lower the support arms for deposit of the package onto the conveyor. The support arms pivot through arcs sufficiently long to clear the rods of the package upon raising of the housing and connected support arms into position for receipt of the next package. A synchronization shaft connects the gear assemblies at the other winding stations for synchronous operation of pivoting of the support arms, and a synchronization belt extends along the machine for synchronized raising and lowering of the housing and support arms at all of the winding stations.

At least one value of the yarn parameter is predetermined for webs and for effects and the cleaning limits of the yarn cleaner are adjusted such that they lie outside the predetermined value of the web parameter and outside the predetermined value of the effect parameter.
