    • PURPOSE:To obtain an exact longitudinal wave propagation time, and to obtain a tablet having high accuracy by calculating (frequency) X (plate thickness) by which the difference of the advancing distance of a longitudinal wave and the advancing distance of lamb wave exceeds one wavelength of the longitudinal wave in a coordinate input effective area, so that only the longitudinal wave of a first arriving wave can be detected. CONSTITUTION:When an exciting voltage VF is applied, and an input pen is contacting an input plate 1, a longitudinal wave is delayed by a propagation time and is appeared. In such a case, since the group velocity of the Lamb wave is reduced, the first arriving wave consists of only the longitudinal wave. For instance, when the input plate 1 is formed of soda lime glass, when the minimum of (frequency) X (plate thickness) of the So wave is determined by a graphical differentiation by substituting 5,500m/sec for the velocity of the longitudinal wave and 3,500m/sec for the velocity of the transverse wave, and calculating the phase speed distribution, it becomes about 2mmMHz. Accordingly, when the plate thickness of the soda line glass plate, and the propagation frequency are set to 4mm and 500KHz, respectively, the velocity of the Lamb wave becomes smaller than the transverse wave velocity, and a part (b) becomes the area of only the longitudinal wave. Therefore, even if the propagation time becomes short, as for the first arriving wave, only the longitudinal wave is detected exactly, and the propagation time can be measured with high accuracy.

    • PURPOSE: To attain high accuracy and high image resolution and to realize a natural handwriting action by making use of the transmission of a vertical elastic wave and therefore eliminating a specific area which produces an error input over a flat plate type medium part.
      CONSTITUTION: When the tip of a pen 3 has contact with an input flat plate 1, a vertical elastic wave is transmitted along the plate 1 and reaches piezoelectric elements 2aW2d set at four corner parts of the plate 1 with delay time of transmission accordant with the tip contact position of the pen 3. A pulser 4 applies a high voltage pulse to the pen 3 and also transfers a count start signal to a counter circuit 7. The signals detected by the elements 2aW2d are digitized by a waveform shaping circuit 6 and transferred to the circuit 7. Then the delay time of transmission is calculated in response to the distances between the pen 3 and the elements 2aW2d.

    • PURPOSE: To orient a position accurately by providing a display pen with an elastic wave generating function and forming a printing part upon which the display pen is abutted by a fixed sound propagation medium.
      CONSTITUTION: The fixed sound propagation medium 1 for the position orientation device is formed by a transparent plate and a display part 9 is adhered to the back of said plate. The display pen (input member) 3 is provided with a longitudinal elastic wave generating function to radiate longitudinal elastic waves from its leading projection part. Longitudinal wave detecting parts 2aW2d are formed on the peripheral end part of the transparent plate 1 to detect longitudinal elastic waves. The display part 9 consists of a liquid crystal display part to display a pattern drawn by the display pen 3 on the basis of a command from a display driver 8. The processing from the picture drawing up to its display is executed by a pulser 4, a leading wave detecting circuit 5, a timer difference counting circuit 6, a coordinate operating circuit 7, and the display driver 8. The pulser 4 outputs periodically pulses to the display pen 3 and the circuit 6 to count up the time required from the radiation of longitudinal elastic waves to the arrival of the reflected light.
