    • In one embodiment, a method for an electronic auction transaction includes organizing by a computer each of a plurality of task requests into one or more respective groups. Each task request corresponds to a respective desired use of one or more resources. In addition, each task request has a respective task bid. The computer determines a group bid for each group at least in part by comparing the products calculated by multiplying each first bid within the group by a respective multiplier. The group bid is indicative of a collective value associated with the task bids of the group. The respective multiplier is a number indicative of the comparative value of the task bid relative to the other task bids in the group. The computer determines one or more winning group bids by comparing the group bids to each other.

    • A system, method, and computer program product for observing and modifying activity in an actor processor are presented. An observer module is provided for observing a physical property of an actor processor. The observer module comprises a property-observing sensor for detecting and sampling a physical property of the actor processor and for generating an observation signal based on the physical property. The observer module further comprises an observer processor coupled with the property-observing sensor for receiving the observation signal, the observer processor operative to generate an observer output signal based on the observation signal. The observer module permits the observer processor to monitor the actor processor in a manner that isolates an instruction set of the observer processor from direct manipulation by means of an instruction set of the actor processor. Observer processors may be used in a recursive manner to provide a completely-coupled observation module.

    • Systems and methods using iterative particle reduction for localization and pattern recognition are disclosed. In one embodiment, a method for localization of a plurality of sensor nodes includes establishing a set of particles representing candidate positions for the plurality of sensor nodes; iteratively reducing the set of particles using a plurality of particle reduction iterations, wherein each particle reduction iteration eliminates at least some particles based on at least one constraint and a set of remaining particles from a prior iteration; and after performing the plurality of particle reduction iterations, determining a set of probable locations of the plurality of sensor nodes based on a final set of particles.

    • A method and apparatus are presented for messaging within a plurality of nodes 100, wherein each node 100 includes a processor 208, a memory 210 connected with the processor 208, and a directional communication interface 204 connected with the processor 208. The nodes 100 are operative for receiving a message including an address code with a relative target address of an intended recipient node 106; for processing the address code to determine if the current node 100 is the intended recipient node 106; for modifying the message based on the direction from which the message was received and is to be transmitted; and for re-transmitting the message including a modified address code. The nodes 100 each repeat these actions to propagate a message along multiple paths until the message reaches a desired recipient, thereby providing path redundancy without the need for the use of unique node 100 identities or locations.

    • A high resolution real-time multi-user augmented reality system broadcasts a wide FOV video signal from a plurality of image sources over a distribution bus to a plurality of users that independently select and view different portions of the video signal such that the angular resolution of the displayed video signal is constant over the range of possible viewing orientations. This is accomplished by assuming that each user's position is fixed at the center of a virtual sphere, the image sources' positions are known relative to the center of the virtual sphere, and that the users are looking at a portion of the inner surface of the sphere. As a result, the “flat” images generated by the image sources and the “flat” images viewed by the users can be efficiently mapped onto the virtual sphere and represented as index pairs (d,n). Thus, each user extracts those pixels on the virtual sphere corresponding to the user's current FOV and remaps them to a flat display. The video signals can be augmented with synthetic point-of-interest data such as visual overlays or audio messages that are registered to the video.

    • A system for obtaining collective decisions from multiple control sources. The system is able to produce a single command from these control sources. Each control source corresponds to a behavior and each responds to inputs to produce a command. The system employs a piece-wise constant preference profile composed of zones, spikes, and clamps which compress the amount of the amount of data required to process behavior preferences. The system sorts commands according to command values in a chart to produce a total profile which represents the combination of profiles of the command values for multiple behaviors. The peak zone in the total profile is then used to produce a desired response to the multiple commands. The system allows behaviors to be combined through command fusion rather than subsumption. The piece-wise constant representation allows behavior commands to be combined after they have been passed through a standard control system. This permits behaviors to use any derivative of the control source's variable that is appropriate for their function. The system has a bounded arbitration time so that control loop stability will not be disrupted by the arbitration process. The system also incorporates a method for smoothing behavior switching transients.
