    • The steering angle of a vehicle is monitored using position sensors of an electric motor of an electric power assisted steering (EPAS) system. A position of the electric motor corresponding to the straight-ahead, center position of the steering system is stored in non-volatile memory during a steering calibration procedure, such as an end-of-line calibration in a vehicle assembly plant. Following power loss due to a dead battery, a steering angle zeroing procedure performed in a vehicle stability control (VSC) system generates a center position with enough accuracy to be within one electrical cycle of the motor. The pre-stored electric motor position is then used to determine the electrical cycle where the center position was located, and accurate monitoring of steering angle is resumed.

    • A digital demodulator (100) includes a differentiate and cross multiply stage (102) and a plurality of filter/decimator stages (106, 112, 118 and 108, 114, 120 and 110, 116, 122) that accept both multiple baud rates and multiple modulation deviation frequencies, and that provide a common frequency data stream at their respective outputs. One of said filter/decimator stages is coupled to a primary filter (124) which is followed by a box filter (134). The box filter (134) improves the overall filter response and provides notches at a specified frequency (e.g., 4800 Hz) and its harmonics. Demodulator (100) provides improved sensitivity without the need for any circuit trimming. The filter stages (e.g., 106, 112, 118; 108, 114, 120; and 110, 116, 122) used in demodulator (100) have been optimized to eliminate the need for costly multipliers.

    • A radio receiver has a receiver section (103) that receives an information signal and an integrated circuit (105) in which a default operating condition of an electronic device is selectively programmed. A mask option programming link in the integrated circuit (105) is programmed while maintaining electrical isolation of a programming bias from the electronic device (207). The mask option programming link has a first conductor (211) in a first layer with first (212) and second (213) programming contact terminals. A second conductor (210) that determines a default operating condition of the electronic device (207), resides in a second layer that is electrically isolated from the first layer. When sufficient programming bias is applied to the programming terminals of the first conductor (211), energy dissipated by the first conductor eliminates coupling of the second conductor (210) to the electronic device (207), changing its default operating condition.
