    • A cable lock device includes a housing, a tampering subsystem, and a cable having a first end and a second end. The first end is attached to the housing and is electrically connected to the tampering subsystem and the second end is selectively attached to the housing. In addition, a switch is disposed within the housing and is electrically connected to the tampering subsystem. The switch is movable between an open state and a closed state to indicate when the second end is attached to the housing. The tampering subsystem includes control circuitry that monitors the position of the switch and the status of the cable to detect removal of the second end from the housing and/or severance of the cable. The control circuitry relays status information of the cable lock device to a control unit via a transmitter to alert a property owner of a security breach.

    • A hand held motor driven electrically powered tool, in particular a rotary hammer, comprising a spindle (40) for rotatingly driving a tool or bit (68), a spindle rotary drive train (14, 5, 10) for rotatingly driving the spindle (40) and an arrangement for detecting blocking events (16, 17). Blocking events occur when the tool or bit of the tool become rotationally fixed in the material being bored in which case the rotary drive on the spindle from the motor causes the tool housing to rotate in a user's grip. According to a first aspect of the invention an overload clutch (14) is provided in the spindle rotary drive train for transmitting rotary drive to the spindle below a predetermined torque and slipping above the predetermined torque arranged such that the overload clutch cuts off rotary drive to the spindle, for example by reducing the predetermined torque at which the overload clutch (14) slips when a blocking event is detected so as to cut off rotary drive to the spindle in response to a blocking event being detected. According to a second aspect of the invention there is provided a mode change mechanism (45, 47, 49, 43) for selectively disengaging a clutch (10, 7) so as to cut off the rotary drive to the spindle (40) and the clutch is disengaged when a blocking event is detected so as to cut off rotary drive to the spindle in response to a blocking event being detected.

    • A method for charging a rechargeable battery pack includes providing a charger having first and second charging processes, and manually selecting one of the first and second charging processes. The charging method may include a step for indicating status or end of the selected one charging process. The first charging process may include the steps of providing a fast charging current, indicating end of the fast charging current and providing an equalization current. The second charging process may include the steps of providing a fast charging current, subsequently providing an equalization current and indicating end of equalization current. The second charging process may also include a temperature checking step. Further disclosed is a battery charging apparatus including a charger for charging a battery and having first and second charging processes, and a switch connected to the charger for manually selecting one of the first and second charging processes. The charger may include a microprocessor. Further, the apparatus may include a display output and/or sound output connected to the charger. The display output and/or sound output may indicate status or end of the selected one charging process. The display output may comprise a light bulb, a light emitting diode and/or a liquid crystal display. The sound output may comprise a speaker and/or a piezo-electric device.

    • A digital read-out system for a portable power tool that is adapted to provide a precise digital reading of the depth adjustment of the blade of the tool. The system includes a position encoding device that is coupled to the blade adjustment mechanism of the tool. The encoder provides position feedback information to a microprocessor which is programmed to calculate the amount of blade adjustment made relative to a preselected reference positioned. In the preferred embodiment, a mercury switch is provided which is interrogated by the microprocessor to determine the orientation of the tool so that the orientation of the digital display can be controlled accordingly. In this manner, the display automatically appears rightside up even when the blade adjustment is made with the tool upside down. A mode select switch is also provided for selecting between English and Metric units.
