    • A mount for mounting a rain sensor (22) includes a housing (14) having an access opening on first side and a port on second side for positioning adjacent an inner surface (11) of the vehicle windshield. The second side is adapted for mounting to a vehicle windshield (12), for example by a layer (18) of adhesive which is interposed between the housing (14) and the windshield (12). Optionally, the housing (14) includes an access opening and a cover (30), which and covers the access opening. A mirror mounting button (35) is provided on either the housing (14) or the cover (30) for mounting a rearview mirror assembly (40) to the mount. A biasing member (32) is supported in the housing (14) and is interposed between the first side of the housing (14) and a rain sensor (22) positioned in the housing (14), which urges a detecting surface of the rain sensor (22) to project through the port and to optically couple the rain sensor (22) to the vehicle windshield (12) for detecting moisture on an outer surface (13) of the vehicle windshield. The biasing member (32) may comprise, for example, a helical spring or a urethane disc.

    • A rearview mirror assembly (12) incorporating one or more vehicle information displays (24) includes an information display area (22) in a portion of the rearview mirror housing (12b) which is at an angle to the plane of the reflective mirror element to provide improved visibility of the display by a front seat passenger . The information display (22) can be provided in either the chin or eyebrow area of the rearview mirror housing (12b), in the end of the mirror housing, or, alternately, in the field of view of the reflective mirror element itself or as a combination thereof. Such rearview mirror assemblies can be used in combination with a rearview mirror support (16) and information display assembly including a rigid mirror stay (14) preferably having a mirror support (16) for independently adjustably mounting the rearview mirror assembly, and may also include a breakaway mount which releasably couples the stay and the supported rearview mirror assembly to a windshield mounted button or a header mounted base such that the entire assembly is released upon impact. The information display is especially useful to provide the operational status of the Passenger Side Inflatable Restraint (PSIR) or air bag.

    • An exterior accessory assembly or module (10) for a vehicle door assembly comprises an exterior rearview mirror (16) and/or door cap assembly, which may further include a cover member, a door handle (118), window frame, window seal and/or an exterior rearview mirror assembly. The vehicle door assembly includes a door frame (111), which includes a cap and/or mirror mounting region, a lock and/or latch mechanism, a mirror connector, electronic controls, regulators, trim pieces, and/or the like, and is mountable to a vehicle at the vehicle assembly plant as a single unit. The exterior rearview mirror and/or the cap assembly may mount to the modular door and provide an exterior rearview mirror, a window frame and/or door handle. The latch and/or mirror connectors provide for connection to the handle and/or mirror assembly, respectively, of the accessory module as the accessory module is affixed to the door frame (111). Preferably, the exterior mirror and/or cap assembly (314) and door frame include corresponding electrical connectors for connecting electrical accessories of the accessory module to a door wiring or harness. Preferably, the exterior accessory module and the connectors for the door assembly are correspondingly formed to easily snap or otherwise secure together, such that the mirror and/or cap assembly may be snapped to the modular door, with the components of the cap assembly, such as an exterior mirror assembly, window frame and seals, and/or door handle, also being snapped or otherwise easily attached to their respective mounts or connectors.
