    • 1,242,876. Two-stroke engines; driving-gear. AUTOMOBILES CITROEN S. A. Nov.19, 1968 [Nov.22, 1967], No.54914/68. Heading F1B. [Also in Division F2] A two-stroke engine a is connected to one element (planet carrier b) of a three-element epicyclic gear, a scavenging blower d is connected to another element (sun-wheel c), and the load (e.g. vehicle wheels) is connected to the third element (annulus wheel e) through a variable-speed power transmission T; and at least one variable-speed power transmission C is coupled between the blower shaft d and either the output shaft of the engine or, as shown, the input shaft f of the transmission T. Where two transmissions C are provided, one is coupled to the engine output shaft and the other to the shaft #. As shown, the transmission C is a torque converter but may instead be a variableratio belt drive or an electrical transmission. The epicyclic gear divides the output power of the engine between the vehicle wheels and the blower d. The torque converter C modifies this arrangement by automatically transferring power from the blower d to the shaft #, or vice-versa, the effect being to keep the blower speed substantially constant. Thus, if the blower is dimensioned for the average engine speed, power is transferred from the blower to the shaft f at high engine speeds and from the shaft f to the blower at lower engine speeds. If the blower is dimensioned for low engine speed or for high engine speed, the transference of power takes place exclusively in one direction, and the torque converter C may be designed solely for operation in that direction.

    • 1509287 Stud fasteners SOC ANON AUTOMOBILES CITROEN 10 June 1975 [26 June 1974] 24921/75 Heading E2B [Also in Division F2] A motor-vehicle Bowden type throttle cable (Fig. 5), is supported by a guide member 1 formed as a bayonet type spring-loaded assembly 1 which may be readily i.e. quickly attached to a bulkhead wall 2, the spring- loaded assembly 1 additionally serving to absorb excess movement of the cable by an acceleration pedal P when the engine throttle i.e. carburettor control levers L has reached the limit of its opening movement whereby the maximum tensile loading in the cable assembly on full opening of the acceleration pedal P is limited to the spring loading in the quick-fitting cable guide member 1. As shown, the guide member I comprises a hollow cylindrical member 3 having at one end a pair of diametrically positioned dogs 5 against which a flanged collar 8, 9 having similarly positioned dogs 10 is biased by a spring 11, the collar 8, 9 being relatively axially and turnably movable on the member 3. A flanged sleeve 12, 13, also slidably and turnably mounted on the members 3, forms a reaction mounting for the spring 11 and is axially retained on the members 3 by a hairpin clip 14 arranged in transverse slots of the members 3. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2 the guide member 1 may be readily fitted to a hole 6 in the bulkhead wall 2, the dogs 5 and 10 of the members 3 and collars 8, 9 passing through corresponding notches 7 in the hole 6 to the position shown in Fig. 2 at which point the member 3 is turned through 90‹ to the lockingly fitted position in Fig. 3 in which the dogs 5, 10, collars 9 and spring 11 securely retain the guide member 1 on the wall 2, release of the member 1 being simply and quickly effected by reversing the above assembly procedure. The members 3 additionally forms a seating 20, 25 for the cable outer casing, the cable core passing out through a flared opening 16 (Fig. 4). The arrangement is such that excess movement of the pedal P, beyond the point at which the carburettor throttle lever L is fully opened, simply compresses the spring 11 of the guide member 1 to prevent excess load on the throttle cable assembly &c.

    • An anti-locking braking device for a wheel of a motor vehicle for reducing jerky braking, wherein a fluid operated brake cylinder is connectable, when the wheel is about to lock, to a fluid outlet comprising first and second flow paths leading to a reservoir. In the first flow path a restriction is provided downstream of a first chamber whose volume is increased by movement therein of a spring biased first piston under the effect of pressure of the fluid admitted to the chamber. Such movement is arranged to open a first valve in the second flow path, and fluid form the brake cylinder to the reservoir can by-pass the restriction and thus a faster rate of pressure drop in the brake cylinder can be achieved, provided a second valve, also in the second flow path is open. Movement of this second piston controls opening and closing of the second flow path by the second valve which is open when fluid pressure in the first flow path upstream of the restriction exerts a lower force on one side of the second piston than the force exerted on the other side by a spring.
