    • An interior rearview mirror assembly for vehicles incorporates a case having a reflective, prismatic mirror element, a support on the assembly for mounting the assembly on the interior of a vehicle, a day/night actuator mounted for movement between day and night positions on the case to change the amount of light reflected by the prismatic mirror element, and a lever mounted for movement on the case and engaging the actuator to move the actuator between the day and night positions. The lever includes a curved configuration adapted to mate and correspond with a portion of the case when the actuator is in the day and night positions. In a preferred embodiment, the lever is a pivot lever which extends outwardly through an aperture in the case and has concave and convex areas which mate with opposed portions of the aperture in which the lever is positioned. A carrier member which includes a circuit member secured to and/or at least partially encased and/or encapsulated within a support body such that electrical connections extend therefrom may be mounted within the case. Portions of the assembly such as the carrier member may form a stop for the day/night actuator to limit movement of the mirror housing between the day and night positions. In various embodiments, the mirror assembly may include an electrical component, such as a lamp or a video device, mounted on the carrier member with the component being connected to the circuit member for operation on the mirror assembly.

    • A safety-enhanced, inside rearview mirror assembly for vehicles of the type adapted for movement between day and night positions to reduce reflected glare is disclosed. The assembly includes an energy/impact absorbing plate selected to have predetermined thickness, stiffness, cracking/permanent deformation resistance, and galvanic action passivity positioned between the glass mirror element and the day/night actuator within the mirror case. The plate absorbs the actuator impact energy should the day/night actuator be caused to impact the rear of the glass mirror element when the front of the inside rearview mirror assembly is contacted by an air bag during deployment in an accident and substantially reduces damaging protrusion of glass shards which otherwise could puncture and impair proper operation of the air bag. The plate may be spaced from the rear of the mirror element, or adhered to the mirror element preferably with a flexible, resilient adhesive laminate which doubles as an anti-scatter layer. The plate avoids significant affects on the weight, vibration, and mirror case construction without degrading the light reflective layer.

    • A vehicle memory mirror system includes a vehicle mirror assembly and a control module. The vehicle mirror assembly includes a reflective element, a motor for positioning the reflective element about an axis, a monitor for monitoring the position of the reflective element with respect to the axis, and a mirror-based control including a position control which is operatively connected with the motor and the monitor in order to position the reflective element at a particular position. The control module is interconnected with the mirror-based control by an analog interface and includes a processor for providing analog signals on the analog interface indicative of a desired position of the reflective element with respect to the axis. The mirror-based control preferably includes a servo-amplifier circuit. The control module can control the speed of movement by formatting a series of sequential signals on the interface, each representing an incremental movement of the reflective element.
