      R¹ is C₁₋₅ alkyl,
      R² is C₃₋₇ cycloalkyl which may optionally be substituted by alkyl, C₅₋₆ cycloalkenyl, a bridged alicyclic group or C₄₋₆ branched alkyl,
      and
      R¹ and R² may form an optionally substituted cyclic group, together with the nitrogen atom to which they are bonded,
      with the proviso that where R² is C₄₋₆ branched alkyl, then the total number of the carbon atoms of R¹ and R² is 7 or 8, and
      with the exception of the case where
      X is chlorine or bromine,
      Y, Z and W are hydrogen,
      T is hydrogen, chlorine, bromine or methyl,
      R¹ is ethyl or n-propyl, and
      R² is C₅₋₆ cycloalkyl, provided that the total number of the carbon atoms of R¹ and R² is 7 or 8,

    • A process for the production of 1-substituted-5(4H)-tetrazolinones represented by the general formula:

      wherein

      R¹ represents optionally substituted C₁₋₁₂ alkyl, optionally substituted C₃₋₈ cycloalkyl, optionally substituted C₃₋₈ alkenyl, optionally substituted C₃₋₈ alkynyl, or a group represented by the general formula


      wherein

      Ar represents optionally substituted phenyl, optionally substituted naphthyl or an optionally substituted five- to seven-membered heterocyclic ring,
      R³ represents hydrogen or C₁₋₄ alkyl, and
      n is 0, 1, 2, 3 or 4,
      which comprises reacting the thioxo group of 1-substituted-5(4H)-tetrazolinethiones represented by the general formula (II)

      wherein

      R¹ has the same meaning as mentioned above,
      with ethylene oxides of the general formula (III)

      wherein

      R² represents hydrogen, methyl or ethyl,
      in the presence of a base, and in the presence of water or an alcohol or a solvent mixture thereof.
